Here’s Adam del Monte playing an excerpt from the Alegrias on his new CD, ‘Asi Li Siento Yo’ on a new 2011 Felipe Conde FC28 negra. We thought we’d try out recording with backing tracks, the way you might in the studio, so what you’re hearing is the guitar recorded live in the showroom, along with the compás track that was playing in his ear at the time (and then mixed a little in the studio, of course).

Damn….That man can sure play .Del monte is one hell of a good flamenco guitarist. The conde negra sounds dark ,warm and clear .A lovely sounding guitar and the rosette is very exquisite.

I note that the Felipe Conde guitar is brand new ,2011 and is spruce. It will just get better and better with playing and as it matures. But it already sounds terrific.I love spanish guitars ,and with good reason .

  3. LAWRENCE says:

Negras have a much darker tone than their blanca counterparts ,which is the intention of course.Still ” muy flamenco ” but very different.

I had Conde AF25 and it sounded dark, thick finish, string distance from sound board from bridge 9mm ( too far). Did not like at all. Tried different Conde’s guitar in Getenborg -Sweden ( guitar store). none sounds same , like they were built by different people . I lost trust in conde’s guitar. I may choose good one from 50.

This one on video Clip soundslike guitar is about 3.8lbs. The action on bridge is about 9mm. The 3mm action on 12 fret is medium high, dry sound . The only good player can tell how much guitar will improve by time. The ear and technique needs to be developed before be able to decide what guitar worth.

Zoran ,Ramirez guitars were also built by different people: Bernabe ,Contreras ,Perez ,Tezanos ,Manzanero etc .Each guitar has to be judged on its own merits i.e seperately and individually. One might select ten conde guitars ,and one or two might be outstanding ,the other six good and the others less good for example. Judge the individual guitar.

  6. Lawrence says:

To Zoran ,this is a common complaint regarding guitars made in madrid ,that nobody knows who built what .That does not necessarily prevent them from being good guitars. If you really want an individual maker who builds alone ,there are many options.

  7. Lawrence says:

Zoran ,one can not play a guitar hoping it will get better with time / playing etc. If you do not really like the guitar immediately ,then avoid it. If the guitar sounds great to you from the very outset ,it should hopefully get even better with age….up to a point.

  8. I have played several Conde guitars. last one at the gutar salon. it was $13k US and OK but not up to the standard I would expect. The one owed by Paco is made by Faustino and can’t be had anymore.

I went to a little shop in east LA and bought a Cadelas Negra with Cedar top and Mexican Rosewood back and sides and it was significantly better than the Conde A-25 (which was maple back and sides) the Candelas I play as often as my ’64 Reyes. It stands up to the best I have played and cost less the $3k. Go figure.

  9. Lawrence says:

Gitano ,which is why I said to judge each guitar individually….on its own merits. The conde maple would of course have different qualitites, maple imparts a very different but lovely tone.A maple guitar usually sounds softer but it has a lovely musical quality too. I would guess that with lots and lots of playing and several years ,the maple conde would develop and open up beuatifully.

Are compas tracks the musical equivalent to comedy laugh tracks?

  12. Fernandez Kerekes says:

The sound is a bit hard and lifeless, can not be felt behind “puro” flamenco sound.
The volume in this scenario, not all.
The game is a good technique, a little jolt.
