Dear Dave, and GSI Forum: in addition to the " off topic" column you recently added, would you consider a "Flamenco" column, dedicated as it is obvious to this style?
I always felt that this Forum is heavily rooted on classical guitar (not that there is anything wrong with it), and Flamenco threads or posts are simply an occasional dash of color tolerated as "exotic" flights by GSI's common constituency.
I do not think it would foster discrimination and confinement, as it would rather promote GSI's diversity of memebers and interests.
This Forum is "classical guitar" by default, and i (anyone else) feel the need of that dedicated corner... any chance?

Yes, I agree. The classical column would not be adversly affected and having a dedicated Flamenco column, I believe engender/encourage additional Flamenco topics. I read through the forum often but haven't contributed much in the past but I would get involved if we did have a specific Flamenco column.

Let's take a vote. Whoever does or does not want a flamenco room, reply here and we'll see how it goes.
I'll vote yes.

Ok, that's enough for me. I'll make it in a bit. Should I call it "Flamenco Corner"? It's what Giacomo titled this thread... Any other ideas?

For the record I vote No.
Edit: Since its a done deal I think the word "Flamenco" should be removed from the other room descriptions to make it clear that they are not just "default classical" but in fact classical.

Awesome. Thank you guys.
Sorry Conde that you felt otherwise, would you elaborate on what makes you dissent? You always express rather fair opinions, and it worries me you are negative about this proposition.

Mich,
You may remember that I have commented before (in the "What's wrong with this forum?" thread if I remember correctly) that one of the things that attracted me to this forum was the intermingling of flamenco and classical guitarists. More than any other site this forum is actually dedicated to the instrument itself (guitar shop, duh!) and I always thought it an amusing irony that classical and flamenco players must share the instrument and find a way to coexist despite what is clearly disparate missions, and often clashing personalities. If you look at some of the most lively threads you will see that this conflict at work. I'm sure a dedicated flamenco room will make it more comfortable for everyone, if that's what interests you.

I vote for having separate posting sites. We all (including Segovia) know that flamenco players are noisier, rudes and less educated that classical guitar players. The problems in this forum come from the flamenco players.
If you decide to keep them together, I would respectfully request another section for Fusion Flamenco and for Steel String Fingerpicking.

Dave,
I just wanted to cast my one vote and not trying to be an obstructionist. It looks like you've already modified some of the room descriptions to just say "guitar"...I thinks that's better than my idea. Actually I've never liked the "classical" monicker.:)

No problem. Actually, I didn't modify anything! That's how it's always been.
I think I'll create it anyway, most people seem to want it. It obviously doesn't require segregation of the two styles, either are free to post anywhere, like always. The flamenco room will be just for those who want it, I'm not saying you have to use it if you want to talk flamenco.

Conde, i was really interested in your views, not to instigate a debate. But I appreciate your vote, regardless.
Francisco is teasing us. But we need a bit of that spirit as well, to keep us more earth-bound. We now have the off-topic room as a grab-all purposes. Hopefully the Flamenco section will be promoting educational discussions about the style, without sparing the added fun that classical players miss in those tight black suit they need to wear....
Dave, thank you.
