If someone can just help me a bit, I'd appreciate it. So that I don't pick up a bad habit, I'm posting this.

The last stroke of the rhumba ends with a thumb up. It just seems more comfotable to me to end it on the Index. Reason is that the thumb gets a chance to get ready to pluck down either the E, A or D string on the first beat.

So after the Golpe, I only use my index finger to go up, then down and then up which keeps the thumb free to attack the first beat. Please correct me if my reasoning is not right. I don't want to fall pray to bad habits.

Thank you maestros!
Pete.

Hi Pete,

There are many different rumba strumming patterns. I don't play any that end on a thumb up, I don't believe. Try some others, see if you find one that works better for you.

Regardless, there's no "rumba police" out there that'll lock you up for strumming differently. Find a way, or create a way, that works best.

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Peterd.

Welcome to the forum.

As Dave said, there are many rumba patterns.

Some are simple and some are complex.
There are some good samples on youtube
under rumba lessons.

If you like, send me a private message and
and I'll send you some patterns that my
teacher gave to me.

Good luck.
