Innovative can mean a lot of things such as taking something to a higher level, combining different forms/instruments or bringing about a new technique. In the world of flamenco music I was wondering who folks think has been innovative and why. The end result does not necessarily have to be positive--one tries something new and it is innovative but not necessarily good.

For an interesting innovative "fusion" of music I would have to say that when Sabicas did 3 pieces with a sax player back in the 40's it was certainly innovative. Sadly though the pieces did not sound all that great to my ears--there is something about a sax playing a bulerias that just does not cut it for me. Gino D'Auri's use of a cello for a siguryas (sp?) was definitely interesting and it was pulled off quite well resulting in a very haunting sound--perfect for the palos.
