I first learnt about GSI some 10 years ago when I visited their small but well run salon in LA. I was warmly welcomed and spent a very enjoyable afternoon discussing guitars and makers with Tim and other staff on hand. At that time I was on my way to Europe and looking for the ultimate Spanish concert guitar. I was fortunate enough to learn on that day that there is no ultimate guitar but rather many exquisite hand made instruments in the world each different nd special in their own way. I played about ten guitars then Tim suggested that I try a guitar by the Australian maker Richard Howell. The one he had in stock was quite stunning and its sound haunted me for the rest of my trip through America and later Europe. Some months later I arrived in Australia and went and visited Richard Howell in his small one-man workshop in Mornington Australia. Since then I have owned four of his guitars each one more beautiful in its own way. The latest is a stunning spruce one that I recieved last year. The simple point to this story is that the world needs dealers like Tim at GSI. Dealers who are not only interested in sales but more interested in the satisfaction of their clients and also in the promotion of the guitar in general.

Hi Peter, I lived in Brunei in 1997-2001 and had a practice group which met every Sunday. I was wondering if you're Peter Newnham from Melbourne who lived in Brunei at the same time. Please let me know, I'm interested in Richard Howell guitar as well.

Slow day at GSI? How does such an old "gushing" thread by someone seemingly not a member suddenly appear.

Is anyone interested in these kinds of posts anymore? I don't think so, please move on.

Hi John,
I'm assuming you're not serious.
Just in case you are, I'll try to explain - our archive posts easily date back this far, feel free to browse them yourself. Also, very old members who are no longer active do not have a profile or "clickable" name.
So I imagine Qiwing was probably doing a search for his friend and came across this old post and wrote a response, thus resurfacing the thread.
Hope that explains how this happened.
Dave

Hey Dave,
I really am serious, especially as Qiwing joined on May 8, 2008 (the day of the post) and has all of one post to his credit, of course, this one!
Anyways, always good to churn up some good press for the boss.
Hope you are enjoying the Santa Monica surf,
John

Oh, you're referring to Qiwing, I thought you meant the original poster.
My guess is Qiwing joined the forum for the sole purpose of posting this message, as he's clearly trying to reach the original poster. He probably did something like a Google search yesterday, found his friend on our page and signed up. That would probably explain his one and only post.
Besides, if it was me posting under one of my many false names, I certainly would've used one that had more posts under my belt, like my "Brian Richardson" or "GSI Fan" aliases. ;) (j/k Bri & Fanny!)
Anyway, I'm just joking around, I have no idea who Qiwing is, other than one of the thousands of forum members. I wouldn't read so deeply into this.
Cheers,
Dave
PS - The water is indeed quite lovely over here.

My impression was the guy had done a search on Richard Howell guitars and jsut happen to come up with a post with his friend's name in it. CG world is tiny, remember?
Although the devious self praising post sounds like something I would do on a slow day for laughs.
So there you go.
