Since I have taken up Classical Guitar, I keep hearing of this Japanese guitarist who transcribed Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition for solo guitar. I hear he is one of the fastest classical guitarists out there and have heard many amazing things, as well as negative things concerning his transcriptions being beyond the scope of the instrument. He seems to be the most contraversial guitarists and all I wnat to do is hear this transcription. Unfortunately, I can't find his music anywhere! Is there anyone who knows where I can find a copy of Pictures at an Exhibition? I would think that such a contraversial transcription would be easy to find. Can anyone help?

Re: Yamashita

I recently purchased an LP of his Pictures at an Exhibition from a rare music dealer. I heard it on a guitar program one night in LA and was very impressed with it. However, I've yet to get it copied to CD. Try contacting Parnassus Records @ 51 Goat Hill Road in Saugerties NY. Google them and find them on the net. They are cool to deal with. The LP, by the way, was in mint shape and only cost eight dollars. Good Luck.

I thought I would let everyone know that I have found Yamashita's version of Pictures at an Exhibition on CD. It is available on RCA and I believe it has been fairly recently reissued. It appears to be available in Asia only. I found it at various Korean and Japanese music sites. I purchased it myself at Tower Records Japan. I am looking forward to hearing it!!

Hello, Ryan

I have a copy of the solo guitar score of Picture transcribed by Kazuhito Yamashita. However, nobody really can play this piece as it is the piano transciption. Its publisher is Gendai Guitar, Japan.
If you wish to puchase the copy, go to gendaiguitar.com.jp website.

I kills me that the work of this amazing genius is largely unavailable in this country.

He has well over 100 recordings under his belt. The few that I've heard are brilliant. As I said, genius.
