View Full Version : G-String
Has any one come across a good G-string? I've not found any that sound clear and bright, only tubby ones.

try galli genius guitar strings. the 'g' string really sings as do the trebles. the basses are ok--i use hannebachs.
Thanks, I'll check into the galli. Kozmo-which Savarez do you like? I've been using the corum crystal and I'm still not very happy.

I like to use hannebach 728's or
La Bella 2001 trebles.
Medium tension G and HI tension B + E .
I think the medium Gs have a little
brighter attack.
Have you tried any carbon or titanium
strings for the G. They are brighter, but
a little shrill on some guitars,,,,
stringsbymail and some others sell single strings.

"tubby" ie "chubby", "flabby", or conversely--"thin", or..."DEAD"??!!
hhhhhhmmmnnnn............definitely "NOT" what we'd like to see in a "G" string
...in the realm specific to "guitars" as is in the "other".....I've found that an immediate change at the first hint of "tubby" et al...does wonders for the visual & sonic continuity in referencing our term "pleasing" ;)
oc chuck, that's an interesting application of differing gauges/tensions & like everone here, I've got "stacks" of new trebs!--Thanks for the suggestion!

Brian,
I fully agree with your opinion about this composite g.
When I first used it on my Ramirez 1a, it was an “ear opener” !
According to my opinion it has only one disadvantage .....
due to the very inflexible material from which it is made,
I find it very difficult when I try to string it, especially on the bridge.

hhhmmnn...."Italian" huh?...makes sense.....'Fan'ny's gal's "Italian"!!
(justin--"how many" you got?..."no apostrophy}...)
Wel'p Bri' what's the skinny(pardon the pun!) on the "bridge" woes?
and uhhh btw....I'm "hell" on Ds & "G" strings---they come flyin'off all'a time!......I remember now the last set here(ferget which guitar they're on!) had "two" strings --a "wound" & a straight one......'that it?
just popped one on the Etude lately--"A"--(odd!)--& that was a middle of the night "gremlin pop" just like on the R1 occasionally--but they're always D or G....

i tie in a unusual way(i guess)
the only one else i've seen tie this way is bream
on his new dvd. been tying this way forever. they never slip
and you get a better break angle than the 1,2,3,wrap around.
i think i saw it on schramms web site also-i might be wrong though.

I agree, the first time I tried it I did not think it was anything special. After 3 months I removed it an went back to regular D'addarios. That's when I noticed the difference. That all I use now D'addario Pro Arte Composites hard tension.
