I have heard very little about asturias guitars. Can anyone here please tell me about any experiences you've had with them? I have the chance to get an asturias alto guitar for $2500 which isn't really a bad deal considering the retail price for them. I'm not sure if they're good guitars or not and the seller is halfway across the country.

i had the chance to play an asturias model 50 a while back (not sure what this model or its equivalent costs) and i was very impressed with the sound. :D

as to an alto, that is another question given it is a guitar outside of the usual stardard voicing---but, given my experience with the model 50 i would say quality and sound wise you should be ok. but, get more opinions before you spend $2500 or otherwise: :( :x

Hi there

At GSI we are the distributors for Asturias guitars in the U.S. These guitars are made in Japan, in one of the most prestigious workshops in that country. Our experience with them is that their quality is remarkably consistent. The models we import as part of our regular stock are built in the style of Hermann Hauser, and they are unusually loud and rich. Great workhorse guitars.

I have never seen one of their alto guitars myself, but like said before, the quality of the workshop is very consistent. If you are buying it second hand I would just make sure that it is in good shape, with no cracks, a straight neck, etc. You know, the normal precautions you would take when buying a used item.

Good luck on your search!

i owned one old Asturias model 3456 for John Mills which I bought it 20 years back. It is solid spruce, solid indian rosewood and a long scale length of 657mm. the label marked the guitar is made by M.Matano... not sure if he still work for asturias....
the guitar still in good playing condition. overall, it is a good guitar of high quality....

I personally own an Asuturias, and have had the pleasure of trying several of their guitars of different price range. I absolutely love them. I'm not to certain about their altos though. So I really can't comment on that matter.

I have a 96 Asturias Standard. I am not satisfy with the guitar. Although it is quite loud in the upper registers, it is too soft in the lower registers to suit my taste.

Miguel, i'm also seriously considering getting an Asturias Custom spruce or cedar guitar and would like some elaboration on the tonal qualities of these guitars. Aside from being unusually loud and rich what other qualities would you describe their sound as, good or not so good. I presume loud doesn't necessarily mean in an entirely good way...
Thank you
