Could somebody who have one of these guitars tell me your thoughts and opinions? I have searched for many new guitars in the $5-6k range and the two Redgate guitars I tried stood out most, along with a Traphagen.
Hi
Not sure if this helps you or not, but here goes. I've currently owned a Traphagen for 9 years and looked into replacing it with a Redgate a couple of years ago. While I was first playing the Redgate, I was thinking that it was vastly superior sounding to my Traphagen. When I went back to the Traphagen, I realized the short comings, in my opinion, of the Redgate. The Redgate has a nice warm even sound to it, but it seemed to lack some guts. It didn't seem to want you to play hard, and the overall volume was less. I would describe it's overall character as "mellow." Needless to say, I stuck with the Traphagen.
Please don't misunderstand me, the Traphagen isn't perfect either, but gives me more of what I'M looking for. I'm not trying to rag on the Redgate, as I still think it was a fine guitar that's priced very well. It also was very beautifully made and finished. I have no doubt that many people would really like it. It just wasn't for me, although I'd love to try one again as I'm sure there are variancies between his guitars just like every other maker.
Good luck
Guy

I am also inerested in the Redgate; Jim is a well known Aussie luthier who I have read and heard about a lot recently. I would love to play one of his guitars, and am interested to anyone else's experiences with his instruments.
