I would very much like a place that I and the people on this forum could upload .wav or mp3 files of personal performances to showcase an individual’s talents, abilities (or disabilities) new compositions and performances to be judged by other musicians. This will also give this forum the ability to have competitions.

I personally would like to have other serious classical players critic my playing. As apposed to my friends who usually say something like “that was great man, but do you know any Skynard” after playing the hell out of some difficult peace I have been working on for weeks or months.

We could also give others examples of what to do and not to do, give audio examples of problems with playing or guitar issues.

GSI could also use this to allow people to hear the tone of that vinage Torres (or other guitars) to a prospective client instead of just reading about it.

Just a thought.
Want to be heard.

I hear you Jonny! Hey, I guess the aural training is working.

An online audio guitar forum - great idea - a new dimension to forum discussions, there's only so much that can be expressed with words, right. Why we do what we do.

Stride the strings of life
and scale the frets

Good idea... if GSI would want to provide storage space for everybody. I have a Geocities site and they give you 15 Meg (I think) of space for free and you can upload your sound and pictures to there and then link to it from this forum. Geocities does this in exchange for putting ads on the pages. I have a multi page site with sound and have not even used a tenth of my space. For the curious my site is http://www.geocities.com/beads_59/index.html
It is a religious site and if that offends you just make sure you don't click this link. I'm not trying to promote religion on this board, just letting you know about a free place to put your music and such. The music on my site is not my playing (yet), just some free download files of midi music. I do not know html, I created my pages entirely by pointing and clicking, except the text, which I typed. There are other sites like this that do free web hosting.

Thank you all for your suggestions and input. We'll take these ideas into consideration and get back to you.

FYI: We're getting ready to launch the new TeacherNet, an international online database of guitar teachers which will include audio demonstrations. Stay tuned!

I tripped over a web site called www.harmony-central.com that has such a forum in their guitar forum. There was a variety of music including nylon string guitar. It seemed to me that the folks were posting links to other sites where their actual music files were. We could do the same here.

Harmony-central is ok but you have to go to weed http://alt.venus.co.uk/weed/music/classtab/welcome.htm to find the holy grail of classical guitar music.

I would be very happy to give a ulr for a location to find mp3s of my own stuff I uploaded.

Now if there were only an ftp laying around no one would mind letting us use!

I am now working on my own website.
Will have files there.
But would really like to hear everyone else’s stuff too.

Most people don’t really know how easy it is to set up a very respectable home studio for under 500$

Too bad.

But Jonny, at Weed its all tablature! Despite being proabbly the largest collection of clasical guitar tabs in the universe, I have got to get away from the numbered lines if I wanna get accepted into any of the music schools down here!

Also Jonny, You'll find that there are quite a few free web hosts out there that use FTP as a way of transferring files. But to make it a public access point to transfer files would be hard, because people could alter the content of your pages etc if you give everyone the access codes, FTP address etc. You could host a page and then let people email you, prviding you had a huge inbox...

But I am actually behind you here. I realy enjoy listenin to hobby/semi-professional guitarists - and as for the home studio bizzo... I'll be fine recording out of my mono pinhole microphone on my iBook

Ed, I just got a box called an “M-Audio Duo” (about 300USD) that allows full bandwidth audio and two mikes to plug directly into your soundcard by a USB. 2 good mics, some egg crate and you will sound like you did it in a 100K+ studio with a good audio app.

I tried the pin hole for a while but it just cant compare!

BTW Ed, would love to hear some of your stuff!

Sounds interesting, Jonny. I flirted with the idea of an M-box for a long time - but I am too poor, after my last investment of a 4E Jose Ramirez. Even still, too poor.

But, I'll give a bit of credit to Apple. Even though they chose to not include a line-in on their iBooks, that little Microphone holds up pretty well, I think.

I also think that my playing is far from ready to be recorded for other ears than mine. I, myself, am very critical of any recording by any performer floating around - basically whether or not they do the piece of music justice. I expect the same criticism from everyone else, but am not ready for it 8) You see, when I record, I want to be known for creating a magnificent and individual interpretation. Little clips, I suppose, can not hurt. You find the place, I'll supply a snippet from the pin hole :o
