I am a small lady with small hands, and right now I have a pretty nice almansa 435 Senorita. The scale is 636mm. I love the little guitar, it was under 1000, and for a student, it is a very nice guitar for that price. My teacher can make that thing sing. but I am wondering if there are recommendations for other short scale guitars out there. Are there shorter scales than 636mm? Do they sound worhty?

Hi Diedra,
There are indeed guitars with shorter scale lengths than your Almansa Senorita currently available. The "cadete" model is the next step down, with a 580 mm scale length. Also known as a 3/4 size, these guitars are ideal for the child between 8-12 years old. The "requinto" model is the equivalent of a 1/2 size guitar, with a string length of 544 mm, which is "three-steps" smaller than the standard size of 650 mm. Its size is especially geared for the younger beginning child.
Alhambra and Cordoba make some excellent shorter scale guitars. Most of the guitars currently available in these sizes are entry-level student guitars, but their higher end models are also available in shorter scale on a special order basis.
