First of all, this is my first post so let me start off by saying hello to all the fellow guitar players.

Does anybody know where I can find the sheet music to the Three Epiaphios, no. 3, 4, and 5, by Mikis Theodorakis as recorded by John Williams on The Guitarist album? I have searched everywhere I know of and haven't had any luck whatsoever. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am another classical guitarist who is interrested in finding the sheet music for Three Epitafios by Theodorakis. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to find them and so I am of no help. If you have come across them I would appreciate it if you would let me know where you found it.

I'm also interested in finding the music for these, especially No.5. I've scoured the internet to no avail. My theory is the score for these pieces are safely in the hands of John Williams, and he's not giving them up. I've never seen them recorded anywhere else and the music doesn't seem to be available. Please, someone, prove my theory wrong.

They are at least in two hands. Sharon Isbin performed them on her album "Dreams of a World".
I've only found them for piano. I don't think they have been published for guitar. So, you best bet is probably to get the piano score an work out your own version. I've been to lazy lately to do it myself!

Anyone here know how to transcribe from piano? If not does anyone feel confident in transcribing off the album, meaning listening to the notes played and matching them on the guitar. It would constritute tablature, which i'm not fond of, but would make an exception in this case. I've thought of trying it myself, but my ear is a little weak. If it's not available how did Sharon Isbin get the music. Do the big names trade amongst themselves or something?

I am somewhat familiar in arranging guitar music from piano scores (I am currently in the process of arranging one of Chopin's nocturnes for guitar). I do not know where to find the piano scores but if anybody could tell me where I could get them (for free) I would be more than happy to give it a shot. The most difficult part is simply reading the bass cleff and possibly transposing the pieces to a different key. After all, why should Isbin and Williams be the only ones with an arrangement of those songs?

It is very easy to transcribe from the piano... If you can read music for the guitar, you can turn piano music into guitar music very easily.

All you need is a good music program (or efficient handwriting manusript skills) and a beginners knowledge of the bass clef - just the notes on a piece of paper - then it becomes a game of trail and error.

I think this way, a more sound perception of the piece becomes apparent through your own arrangement.

Greetings folks,
Try the following link;
http://www.gspguitar.com/jsp2/listProduct.jsp?cat=sheet&scat=classical_solo&display=3270&navSet=33
they've listed several books by Theodorakis for guitar. Unfortunately they don't detail all the pieces within the individual books...maybe you could call GSP, I'm sure they'll be happy to help you.
Respectfully,
Mark

Which Nocturne? I have the score for Op.9 No.2 if that's the one.

No it is Op. 48 No. 13. Does anybody know where to find the piano music for the Epitafios?

Just got an email back from the GSP folks about these pieces. They claim they have not yet been published. That's all the info they give. What a shame, i'm more than a little disapointed.

Tommy...Actually these arrangements played exceptionally by J.Williams are made by famous composer Stanley Mayers(best known for the music he composed for the film "Deerhhunter" starring R.de Niro). There are not available..I have recently heard them in a radio program played by Kostas KOtsiolis live in a guitar festival in Poland from 1999.The better way to learn these well known pieces of Theodorakis is hearing the recording many times until we'll learn them. The harmonization isn't too difficult to learn.. :D
