in an interview several years ago, william kanengiser referred to koyunbaba 8) as the leyenda of the 90's. reading the play list of those who wrote in i noticed no one, besides myself, listed as playing it. so, 2 questions:

1. if it was to the leyenda of the 90's, why was it not listed by those who responded? (i mean, a flamenco like me playing it, but not classical folks?) :o

2. if you have heard the many renditions, whose do you prefer?

as to #2. i prefer john williams for the overall effect--the piece plays into his incredible technique--almost machine like. antigoni goni, william kanengiser, and lilly afshar add some nice flourishes. by the way, lilly afshar, in my opinion, is a really good, but underrated, classical guitarist--definitely worth listening to. :D

You can hear three excerpts from it if you go to the Sheet Music portion of GSI and look it up; it's even on their first page of featured selections right now.

a truly great piece 8) :D a great way of spending about 13 minutes of one's life.
and a good piece to develop the right hand, and the last section, for slurs.
john williams, being almost robotic in his technique, is awesome since this piece is very very hypnotic. you can find it on his c.d. john williams, the guitarist.

Koyunbaba , in my opinion, is one of the greatest pieces ever written for the guitar. Domeniconi's Turkish influences come out nicely in that piece.
I remember when John Williams - The Guitarist was released (the first time I had ever heard Koyunbaba), I listened to that piece several times a day, every day, for about a month straight.

I am of the opinion that most people don't play it regularly because the tuning (E, C#, G#, C#, G#, C# - strings 1-6 respectively) can be very inconvenient.

So far I have heard the John Williams, Antigoni Goni, and Bill Kanengiser versions. Overall I would have to say that the Williams rendition is my favorite, with Goni a close second. The Kanengiser version was good except for the 4th movement (Presto), it seemed to me he was way too tense and mechanical on that part.

you may be correct on the playing. the score through g.s.i. has it as it is played and scored. being challenged in "real" notation, i went the tab. way.
and i think i am almost on target as i have heard it except that i cannot pull it off like john williams (but then again, few can). and that piece seems to have been made for his technique and the his guitar (smallman).
