Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could help me decide whether my guitar is worth repairing. I have a 1969 Marcelino Barbero that was handed down to me by my father. I actually learned on this instrument and there is a great deal of wear and tear. Additionally, the guitar was damaged a year ago during a move to the point where the face (not sure if that's the right term) has been cracked extensively and the bridge is in danger of coming loose. I'm a bit concerned that repairs would total more than the cost of purchasing a new guitar of equal or greater quality. In any case, I would appriate if anyone could recommend someone located in or near western Michigan who might be qualified to repair such an instrument if I come to the conclusion that it is worth having repaired.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks

from what i have read, if the bridge looks like it may pop, take off the strings a.s.a.p.

as to the repair--check out the marcelino barbero for sale at g.s.i.--that should give you an idea of the worth.

The guitar at GSI is a Marcelo Barbero. This guitar is a Marcelino Barbero. it is a fictional name by the same guy who labeled and sold "Garcia" & "Hernandis" guitars. Some of the "Marcelino's" may be made in Spain, but most of these guitars are from Japan. In my experience (I owned a Hernandis) pretty nice guitars. I think to replace it with something comparable would be about a grand...

hey theevan and kirk: actually g.s.i. has a marcelo (flamenco) and marcelino (classical) guitars for sale. from what i have gathered over the time reading g.s.i. ads is that if the word: "inquire" is in the ad, the amount is at least $10,000. given that kirk says his guitar in question is a 1969, it could very well be a real barbero. i would take it to a luthier for an evaluation--and i would have someone who knows barbero's look at it.

If you needed a repair job for your valuable guitar, send it to Guitar Salon International. I know it's kinda far away for you but it's worth every bit of it. I have the best service at GSI. The guitar is liked brand new after a repair job. I could not even spot the damages anymore.

Good luck!
