Guitar Quartets

What are some cool guitar quartets out there? I love the sound of a pretty quartet tune played well and tight.

Any specific pieces that are exceptional?

I have to plug my local artists so I would recommend Los Romeros, first of all. I have seen them live several times and they are the best, at least for me! Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ) are good as well. They play original songs as well as traditional classical pieces and popular songs transcribed for guitar. For example on the CD Latin, they play Fragile originally by Sting, and it sounds very good when arranged for classical guitar. Give those two a try.

The LAGQ are terrific and have a very diverse repertoire.

My favorite for classical are Los Romeros. They put guitar quartets on the map, so to speak. Three generations of Romeros have performed in their quartet.
