Just picked up the CD at Borders a couple of days ago. I don't think there is anything PdL has recorded that I wouldn't like. The new one is different from the other PdL Cd's which I have in that there is more cante, but his playing is wonderful and the sound of his guitar seems a bit mellower. Musically, I think it is a terrific recording, but I prefer to hear more solo guitar.
I would have to say I agree with you, NGiorgio. #7 with Tomatito is a nice song. I wonder if it's that Paco guitar that's mellow or if he's just mellowen'out with age. Either way it's all good.

If he recorded with the new blanca, maybe he is more mellow. I would have thought a blanca would have sounded brighter. Wonder if the DeVoe that he used on track 5 was a blanca or a negra? I couldn't hear much difference between the guitars.
I'm not sure, but I think it's a negra on #5.

Have you seen the video clip on flamencoworld.com? It's interesting that on that song he hardly ever uses the picado technique. It's mostly thumb and arpeggio.

Paco is Paco, and he does it like only Paco can. However, his c.d. really sounds like a lot of the flamenco c.d.'s of the past few years--in a weird way he sounds more like the folks he inspired. I think the c.d. is o.k. but it has an almost coffee house background music feel to it rather than the crank the volume and slug down some jerez sherry feel to it--the Paco of old.
What is weird about this c.d. is the haunting figure of Paco--and the beard really adds more to this image. One gets the sense of something impending......

Keith,
FYI, Paco is going to be in Boston this summer. I think he's appearing in concert in July. :D
