View Full Version : DUde! Your starring role in a romantic blockbuster movie!!
Say you are working on a movie set as a gofer and the guitarist, who is going to play something as a live act during a really romantic
movie-ending scene in a rustic seaside tavern setting, is accidently hit over the head by the sound boom and is knocked out cold and won't come to for days and you are one of many on the set who can play. And shooting must wrap in two hours :
What five tunes (including flamenco) would you use to convince the director that you are the person for the job?

well if it is going to be a romantic scene, and if the actress was really hot, i would bop the actor over the head, play the song myself to the actress and then entice her to...... (gotta leave that to the imagination)
for emotional romantic scene: i guess a flamenco granadinas would be good or the tientos: de ricardo a paco.
for a hot and steamy romantic scene: a por bulerias (the one i had in mind is my own composition inspired by cristina hoyos)
for a more classical piece: debussey's the girl with flaxen hair
for a more mysterious classical piece: albeniz's rumores de la caleta
Thanks a million, Keith! Much appreciated! I wanted to get some good leads on flamenco music to acquire. Flamenco a la Paco y Cristina Hoyos, it is for now.

hey mirv: just an f.y.i. here--cristina hoyos is a dancer not a guitar player. her dancing is inspiring though. if you are looking for flamenco music to acquire, paco de lucia and sabicas would be a great start. finding their work may be a little difficult. if you are wanting to learn flamenco, i would recommend the juan martin and dennis koster studies.
 I should have guessed. "Cristina" is a chick's nombre! Well, I just may have to check-out some dvd's of her for some inspiration, know what I mean  For sure, I think it would be a great educational tool for me in any case, as the music and the dance are so connected. A good visual reference for the palos and aires and such. I 've just got Juan Martins's Solos Flamencos book w/DVD and I really like it's set up, except the DVD is a little skippy at times (don't know why). Hopefully, I can pick it up on my own and quickly. I really like the Rumbas and so I think I will focus on them before moving on to other styles. I really like the Rumbas :!:
