I dont suppose anyone would know of a place to get a hold of the full orchestral score for Fantasia Para Un Gentilhombre? Ive already got the piano reduction but now Ive got the chance to play it with an orchestra but no one has been able to find the score. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
thad

Yes, Joaquin Rodrigo.

Based on "Canarios" by Gaspar Sanz, if I'm not mistaken.

You may want to try his official website, www.joaquin-rodrigo.com. His family (he's dead, but you probably already knew that) seems to heavily control all of his material. They even seem to agressively pursue tablature renditions of his music on the web (http://alt.venus.co.uk/weed/music/classtab/legal.htm#rodrigo). Ridiculous! A little too possessive and greedy for my taste.

Therefore, I find it particularly pleasing to use Rodrigo's sheet music checked out from our public library. I get to play his music legally and not a penny goes to his family coffer.

Good luck.

The 'Fantasia para un Gentilhombre' is indeed based on music by baroque composer Gaspar Sanz. Canarios is the last piece of the Suite Espanola, and the other pieces are mirrored in Rodrigo's re-working for guitar & orchestra. I have a lovely recording of this by the late Narciso Yepes and also managed to acquire his transcription of the same piece.

I think that "Ediciones Joaquín Rodrigo" must publish that score. :D

Eulenburg also prints the orchestral version in a pocket edition.

Canarios is a popular song from Islas Canarias, Spain and many composers have used it with some variations as part of complete pieces, like the "Suite Española" from Gaspar Sanz and "Fantasía para un Gentil Hombre" from Rodrigo. The "Fantasía" was dedicated to Andres Segovia, as the story tells (or at least that is what I have heard!) that he was not so happy that the famous "Concierto de Aranjuez" was not dedicated to him
