Very nice recording. I added it to my mp3 collection.
This piece is on my list and I hope to start learning it in a few months. Hopefully it will turn out as well as yours.

I love this piece so much. I'm learning it now, and while some of the fingerings and bares are tricky, it's a pretty easy piece. I just love the sound of it and it's really fun to play. I'm using the same transcription as you are Joe, and one thing I notice is that the main treble melody in bars 1-4 and 9-12 are not as melancholy as when played on the piano (after all, the title of the piece is "Slow and Painful").
Excellent job though, very clean playing!

Beautifully Done!
I had never heard that song before and now i love it. Very well done. You have great tone and didnt try to play something outside your technical range. There is a lot to be said for that. Your transitions between chords were very smooth and you hardly squeaked at all. Very nicely done. Beautiful tune. Bravo!

i picked up this arrangement off this forum on another thread recently. That same thread has an mp3 of the piece but with a different arrangement on the repeat. good luck
How do you get "slow and painful" out of Gymnopedie? hadnt heard that before.
here's the link for the tab: http://dirk.meineke.free.fr/

The full title is "Gymnopedie No. 1 -- Lent et Douloureux" if I'm not mistaking. No. 2 is Lent et Triste, and No. 3 is Lent et Grave. These are the instructions from the composer on how to play the piece, but they are often used as titles.

This score may not very good, but I only had this one @that time. It's free
Yes, it's not as easy to play as you read the score. It's pretty hard to play with no squeaked when changing chord in this piece. 'cause it's so quiet.
Nausicaa, can u share the piano version of this music?

I don't have the sheet music, if that's what you mean.
If you want some piano recordings, I would be glad to provide. Just PM me and we can figure out a way to transfer the .mp3's, as I don't have any webspace.
I personally think this piece sounds better on the piano than the guitar because the piano allows the bass line (measures 1-4 on guitar score) to repeat throughout the treble line. It sounds more complete, I suppose.
EDIT: there is no PM feature here, if you have MSN messenger, just add me to your contact list, and I'll send it to you:

'Lent et Douloureux' means slowly & mournfully I think.
Nice playing by the way, very smooth changes indeed and solid tempo. I learnt this tune in A major although most versions seem to be in E as the fingerings are easier. What key are you playing in?

Just my $.02, I learned the piece in E major, the biggest difficulty was holding the barre down and getting the right amount of sustain for the lower voices.

I think each has its' merits. The piano can sound more doleful in it's droning of the bass line and unexpressive tone, but the guitar transcription adds vibrato and tone variation. Not to mention the piano version is a LOT easier to play (than the Parkening guitar transcription).

The music he posted was in E Major. (As much as it can be - it uses E Major's ley signature, utilizes an e minor section and ends with e minor, but hardly sounds like E Major.
