the more i listen to manolo sanlucar's new c.d. (locura de brisa y trino) with carmen linares, and the more i listen to his older stuff, the more impressed i am with him. my playing has started to take a significant sanlucar edge to it. 8) i have always felt that his c.d. tauromagia was one of the best of the modern day flamenco c.d.'s.

for those who are just classical folks, definitely check him out.

Keith,
I came across this CD in Spain last year. I too enjoy his style. Locura de brisa y trino is good, but not great :? . Sanlucar edge huh?, interesting; I feel my playing has more of a Vicente Amigo flavor. I bet we would sound good together. Hey, what happened to the cedar top Ramirez?, he's playing a different guitar now. Do you know wo the maker is? Later.

interesting you would mention v. amigo--he was a student of manolo's. the guitar in question is???? supposedly it is a sanlucar (made by someone else). i think he still uses the ramirez. as to his new c.d.--yes you are correct in that it is not as great as his previous stuff--but after tauromagia, there is little room to go upwards--if at all.

Keith and Ykabban,

Lately, I have been working with some material by Tomatito, and also listening to a lot of his recordings. I can now hear the influence of Tomatito in some of my playing. Not a bad thing, we try to play what sounds good to our ears,

I like Vicente Amigo very much and have a few of his recordings. I will look for the Sanlucar CD.

I am still in Florida. Will be back in NY early April.

Going to order some stuff from Flamenco Connection. Will get a couple of Sanlucar's CD's.

Was the polish that you use on your nails, "No More Wrap"? Did you say Walgreens carries it?

You've excellent taste in flamenco, Keith. Tauromagia is one of my absolute favorite modern flamenco albums.

Of his solo works, I only play his Guajiras, but I just got the transcription of his 'Colombianas de Bajo' which is much less challenging, but still nice.

Vicente is great too. He's coming into his own. I really like his minimalist approach to playing. At first I wasn't that unimpressed, but then began to see a sort of genious to his playing and his works. He's easily become my favorite modern flamenco artist.
