well i now have a photo of a cejilla i made (and sold--i am now a small business owner). the buyer sent me the photo and a forum member put the photo in a site. thanks to you both. so here is the photo. the wood is cocobolo (i am fairly sure but it could be another exotic hardwood), the peg is indian rosewood, and the base material is rubber (grips much better than leather).

before you click on the link below, copy it--then click the link-- you will get the angelfire page. then paste the copied link in the address box and the picture will be displayed. i am not sure why this happened, but it works and the link was a gift and i am not complaining. thanks and enjoy the photo.

Keith,

Cool.

Are you going to set up a website to market your cejillas?

Have you thought about ebay as a place to sell them?

hey nick, there is the phrase: cottage industry to describe a small business operated out of a house--this is more like a barbie doll house business--it is that small. i have no plans for a web page and definitely will not go tje e-bay route. but personal orders or through an established biz. is do-able. i figure how much it costs me in time and i would starve and not get to play music if i tried to do this on a large scale. but you never know....

How about G.S.I.?

hey nick, well maybe i should inquire to g.s.i. i have been running over the cost to make one and sell it to a distributor vs. make them and sell them myself. but, since there were 75 hits and you and i are the only ones posting, maybe the demand is not there. again, this has been a hobby (if you can call it that) which i could try to make a little extra change.

There must be demand out there somewhere. The guy selling them on ebay has had them listed for weeks, maybe months. He has to be moving some.

Ordered my supplies. Should have 'em by the end of the week. I will make the attempt to complete a cejilla soon.

thanks marcos. it is the wood that really makes it. i have a dark brazillian rosewood--very ebony looking with an ebony peg that needs a home. and a cocobolo similiar to the photo.

i look at cejillas like this: steel string players like abalone, painted guitars, pictures on their guitars, etc. etc. and we nylon players really appreciate that wood is infinitely better looking than a guitar with a picture of a cowboy on it.

Hey Keith, I have a friend who has a 12 string guitar and the neck is the same width as a classical, (because 12 strings just doesn't go well on a normal sized fretboard for the steel string players) they also use silk and steel strings, (which are very similiar in the tension of classical strings) they said when they use a normal capo it makes the strings go out of tune very easy, i was wondering if a cejilla would work :)

i use the jim dunlop model that has the notches and handle as my control (a lot of flamencos use it because traditional cejillas do not work as well as mine--how is that for a plug!) and i find they both perform equally. as to a 12 string going out of tune--i do not know about that since i know nothing about 12 string guitars. in theory though, with a cejilla, tension control is a little better than the dunlop since the dunlops go from notch to notch whereas a cejilla there is room to tighten or loosen the peg in very small increments.

Hello Keith,

Is there any reason why you off center the peg? Maybe the photo makes it appear that way. It's a very nice cejilla.

Cheers.

Marcos,

The cejilla looks really nice. So does the guitar. What is it? Looks like a spanish cedar neck but I do not recognize the headstock design.

NGiorgio, It's a Domingo Ortega Concierto1a Rio, he's a luthier in Madrid. He's was taught by Vincente Carillo Sr. many years ago. He's not well known in the US (there's only one place i know that sells his guitars here) but i'm pretty sure he's no stranger in the UK and Spain. He makes an excellent guitar. yup spanish cedar neck, german spruce top and brazilian rosewood backs and sides, you should see the rosette, i love it.

From what can be seen from the photos, it looks like excellent craftsmanship. Good looking machines, too. Is it a classical or flamenco negra?

There was quite a discussion recently regarding Domingo Ortega over at the Classical Corner forum, on the Acoustic Guitar site.

it's a classical guitar, but the action on it is a little lower than a normal concert guitar, making it a bit easier to play, it almost has what i'd call a flamenco action :) but it's a concierto classical.

Ngiorgio, that entire post on that other forum makes no sense at all, I didn't buy my guitar from any of those places, and the people i bought it from ( a small shop in the UK, two people run it) have met the luthier. so don't believe everything you hear from someone else or read about ;)

man oh man, someone from the acguitar forum did this link for me--and i thought i would post it here so folks could skip the copying and pasting and such.

after watching a lot of the olympics and seeing the gracious behavior from of a lot of the atheletes, it is good to know that this same behavior is exhibited by guitar players.

so thank you marcos for your photos/plug and taterbug from acguitar.

I like it alot. I'd love one.

Do you think you could make one for a 7-string?

Thanks.
