View Full Version : Playing Guitar from the Chakras

Hi, Folks:

Khansahib ("familiar" name for my teacher, Ali Akbar
Khan) has taught us 3
different ways to make music, stating that each person
should experiment and choose what works best. Try
these with a sung phrase or song, or even an
instrumental one:

1. Sing or play from the Center of Gravity, just below
the naval. The Japanese martial artists often use this
chakra, which they call "Hara." Also, the late, great
cellist Pablo Casals always played from this center.

2. Sing or play from the heart. Again, really immerse
yourself here, focus your energy, make your every move
an outpouring of heart.

3. Sing or play from the "3rd Eye," the chakra
between--and slightly above--the level of the eyes.

I find the last chakra enhances vocal intonation
dramatically--for me, at least. However, I love
"playing from the heart."

What you might (or not) notice is that often our music
can be "uncentered." Life is too short for such
self-indulgence, lack of awareness, and neglect!

All my best,
Mischa

Hey Jube, I've begun to figure that with beer too. I got a bottle of Spanish brandy from Jerez at the moment - even better than beer.

Once you get a taste for the dtronger beers cheap stuff seems watery.

Keep the tips coming man ("&&**) (£^^^%%%)

Keep the tips coming man ("&&**) (£^^^%%%) :D EXACTLY! & I've noticed that "dtronger" strings really help my "flamenco type" playing! 8)
