Merry Christmas Brian, and the same to all. I'm at work right now, but that does not hinder my spirit. I am thankful to have employment, a beautiful wife, and a loving family. Last night, I performed several Christmas songs for family and friends, and it was a joyous occasion. I am not a professional musician, but sharing music with the people I love made hours of practice well worth it. May everyone in the forum, and all they touch through music, have a happy holiday.

Thanks,
Ted Mierzwa

well christmas was great this year: under the tree was not a copy of sabicas' 51 barbero, but the actual 51 barbero. wow! and who should arrive at the door but cristina hoyos (famous flamenco dancer) bringing food and drink and wanting to dance. well it was some kind of morning.....and then the alarm went off and the barbero and cristina disappeared.....damn!

actually christmas morning had me converting appropriate time signature christmas carols into buleria, tango and farruca. and who do you think gave a performance on the n.b.c. today show (sadly sans guitar)? CHARO! who could have for anything more.

.....and being behind on a couple of projects, i am at work for about 2 hr.--not really a bummer though since i am working on a proposal for funding a h.i.v. program i financially oversee. then it is off for some christmas puddin'.

well folks i hope your christmas has been good--not so much as getting new and fun toys (although that makes it that much better) but really appreciating the great life we have and wanting others less fortunate to have something a little bit better.

and tonight when you go to sleep, maybe in your dreams you will get that guitar that makes you drool.

p.s. todd, way cool videos!

Anyway Merry Christmas to you all ...I'll have a glass of red wine I think,
There are a lot of wrong things here in Vaslui(somewhere on this blue balloon ) but at least alcohol is cheap.

Hi Happy Christmas everyone & a prosperous New Year.

Sorin I don't think Conde's are essential. I have a guitar in my office which says "Encore - made in Romania" on the label, I bought it as my daughters first guitar (& last) 15 years ago or so & it is still going strong, may pass it on to a relative soon, it cost $50 over here.

Vicente Sanchis are muy flamenco guitars, I had to have the frets smoothed on mine, & they said that was un heared of. They are hand made in Spain but I found out they are made in a production line way - passed from one specialist to the next - anyway the guy I bought it off used to lend guitars to a very famous Flamenco guitarist to play when over in London, & he always asked for a Sanchis - very Flamenco sound.

I think you might find a good builder in Romania get him to copy a Flamenco I guess Pepe might provide a sructural plan if asked?

I echo Keith's view on helping those who are less fortunate, this needs a bit of working on in my case - it doesn't come easily.

Condes are great but I still think there are other guitars out there by other builders for less money. I have a Conde and it is a great guitar. I also have a Juan Miguel González that is wonderful. Far more flamenco than the Conde. It has that authentic Andalusian sound.

When it comes to today´s Conde, you are paying a lot for the name. Just because Moraíto, Tomatito etc. play them, does not me that they are the greatest guitar on the planet.

Buy a guitar that you like and don´t look at the label. If you are looking for a great guitar for the money, I would suggest a Pedro De Miguel, Ricardo Sanchís Carpio, Juan Miguel González, Pedro Maldonado. These guitars you could probably get for under $5000 USD.

Conde has quite a marketing campaign. I was at the felipe V shop this summer and I played a few of their instruments ( it´s not the first time I´ve been there) and I can tell you that their guitar´s are definitely not worth $7000. I was at Pedro De Miguel´s shop and that had some wonderful instruments that were equal to and even more flamenco sounding for around $5000. Their student model were quite impressive too. Their top of the line student model (one level before their professional model) went for around $2000 and it was amazing for the money.

Please don´t exclude our wonderful American builders. They are really making fabulous instruments.

Well, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Cheers

A belated CHRISTmas greeting to all.
We were blessed this year and able to share with others less fortunate - a added blessing to us.
Santa must have approved as a 'guitar chair' was under our tree and I spent some hours using it yesterday - it is a great chair.

Last I heard, Paco, Vicente and a bunch of other guys are playing Lester Devoe guitars. Has anyone played or owned one of these? How do they compare to a Conde? From what I hear his Negra is awesome.

Anyone tried the "Paco de Lucia" guitar, if you look at Tomatito's website he is supporting a Sanish luthier.

When I was selecting my guitar my teacher passed me a Conde to try - I said "no the neck feels sticky &"" he said "£3000" v mine was £700.

The big names maybe get supplied free for the publicity?

Belated Merry Christmas to all. I've been away for the holiday weekend and this is my first opportunity to get at a computer. This is a great website with a great number of very nice people. Hope 2005 is prosperous and healthy for all!! :D

Another late Merry Christmas to everyone. Returned home yesterday from a week without guitar and computer. Visiting with family etc. and stayed with my in-laws. Always an interesting experience.

Never had guitar and computer withdrawal at the same time before.

Happy Holidays to all.
