hey all of you folks who live in south east asia--are you guys OK? i just saw on the internet news the death toll is now at 21,000--and i am sure thousands more are injured or lost their homes, etc.
i am so sorry for your losses--both human and financial. i hope collectively as a group we can rise to the occasion to help those in need.
to all who read this, the american red cross provides a lot of humanitarian aid for people suffering from these types of disasters. feel free to donate dollars to them--i know i will.

Thanks guys....
we are lucky to be in singapore where the wave was blocked by a BIG indonesia island... but our fellow in the island pf penang of malaysia and phuket of thailand has suffered.
i read the news this morning, the dead tolls will eventually raise to 60,000!... of which 20,000 have been found dead and 40,000 are still missing in action...
if u watch the movie "the day after"... this is it... the live version in asia.
... sad story... u may donate to the international red cross for the people who needs help (cash will b better, guitar may not required at this moment...)

If Sor could play the guitar well...fast, accurate, etc etc...and Segovia could play the guitar well..... isnt the discussion about nails simply a discussion of the different 'tones' obtainable by nails vs. the flesh?
Volume, after all, is only important if you intend to perform..... and even with that modern acoustics easily solves the problem.
So, if I listen to Sor play a piece and then listened to Segovia play a piece isn't it fair to say that they would be 'different' but not necessarily superior to one another?
I'm at a loss to figure out how we can esteem Sor for his playing and, at the same time, claim he was an inferior player because of the lack of nails. Actually, I'd be absolutely satisfied as a musician to simply be able to play ala Sor.
The explanation I was given was that Sor's guitar was different--which produced a greater volume and expressiveness than the modern guitar. On the modern guitar it was asserted that nails are necessary to overcome these issues. Have we really designed the guitar around the fingernail?
Edit: Sorry guys, this was supposed to be posted in another thread. Guess I got lost.

Just to let some of you may not aware of some fact of this earthquake...
- the power of the quake is equal to explosion of 1 million atomic bomb
- it also resulted as one of the island in Indonesia, equivalent to the size of the California state, being moved by 36 meter from west to east... the map of South Asia will have to be changed....
please make your donation to red cross... Thanks...

Just a suggestion, but you may wish to direct your Red Cross donations to the U. S. Red Cross, rather than the International Red Cross. These organizations are not the same. The Int'l Red Cross is quite a bit more political than the U.S. Red Cross. At any rate, there is no question that Southeast Asia needs a lot of help and they need it now.

For those of you that are interested you can visit the ICRC website and make a donation on-line for the tsunami relief effort. Here's the website:
http://www.ifrc.org/. I believe the American Red Cross is a member of the ICRC so either way I'm sure the contribution will go to the right place.
Edit:
Go to this website first -- its faster http://www.icrc.org/Web/Eng/siteeng0.nsf/html/685E5K?OpenDocument
