Hello all, this is the first time I am participating in a forum. (Hablo espanol para aquellos miembros que quieren responder en su propio idioma).
After many years of playing guitar professionally, I have come full circle and now wish to endeavor my skills and training to achieve my life's goal to play this Concierto. Of course, I don't have the benefit of a full orchestra. I am planning to perform this work this year and am seeking a full orchestral midi file that includes all three movements. Second, I am seeking a mentor to assist me in understanding the proper execution of difficult passages that would challenge any maestro, never mind a life-long student like myself. I am open to any suggestions, tips, available free resouces, web links, etc. that will lead me to my goal - that being, perfoming this Concierto publicly.

I believe a company called Music at Your Door (they have a website) sells a CD intitled "Concierto de Aranjuez Minus One". Its a CD of the orchestra without the guitar. I believe it also includes the sheet music.

Edit:

Sorry, my mistake. The web site is Sheet Music Plus: http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/store/smp_fastresults.html?cart=32854846241700384

Hey DJ,
Good luck with Rodrigo's CDA. The three movements of that piece are MAGICAL! In my opinion, if it's not THE BEST, its definitely one of the best conciertos ever!
Check out www.xuefeiyang.com and watch her play the second movement (Its a free video clip you can download.) It's great!
Hopefully soon we will be able to see a video clip of you playing it!
Good luck!

Doug.

Doug,

Thanks for the support. I am at work now but will look later at the clip. This ought to help. I have seen Pepe Romero and Elliot Fisk play this. I saw el Maestro Segovia in 1980. In fact, I witnessed a false start on Bach's Em Bouree. So to the member who had problems with the last four bars - forgetaboutit! Even THE MASTER has made mistakes. (Then again he was about 82 at the time!)

Fisk played the Concierto well, very balanced. Romero played with much emotion. I'll be happy just to execute it.

Doug - have you played it through all three movements?

Hey Dave,
No, I have never played anything from the Concierto de Aranjuez, haven't yet even seen the score! It is definitely way too hard for me to even be thinking about...right now I am only working on the Villa-Lobos etudes and some stuff from Brouwer, Tarrega, and Barrios...so the CDA is definitely way out of my league!
When it comes to ensemble music all I have played were some guitar/flute Celtic folklore pieces (Swinging on a Gate, Untitled Reel, Fanny Power, etc.) and some Downland guitar/voice Rennaisance pieces. Currently I am at work on the three movements from Giuliani's Gran Duetto Concertante Op 52 for guitar and flute. Hopefully sometime in the future I will be good enough to play the Concierto de Aranjuez, but for now I am afraid that is quite a ways away. I do listen to it quite often though! It's sooooo good!
Can't wait to hear you play it! Please keep us posted on your progress.

Doug.

Hola Dave !!:

If You have the time check Maestro Rémi Boucher internet site, and download his videos. (http://www.remiboucher.com/)
You will find them very interesting.
Rémi is a great performer and an excellent person. You may want to contact him for the tuition You need since He has that capability in his Website. You will find that He is actually in my country, so it may take some time to get a response from Him.

Saludos desde Tepic, México !!

Guillermo,

Thanks for your reply. I will follow your advise. I am so grateful for this forum. Sometimes I feel like an island. I don't socialize at all with fellow classical guitarists in my area. Maybe I ought to put a note out to the forum about Classical Guitar Associations in my Area Boston, MA/No. of Boston. Maybe I'd like to start my own local association? Univ. of MA Lowell has a pretty good music program so there must be other players residing in the area?

Anyway, I have diverted. Thanks for the info and hope to hear from you soon.

David
