and my teacher is fred bennedtti cheers to you all ! oh im from la mesa
Hey Zack
Fred Benedetti is a great teacher, did you know he was one of the finalists at the 1986 Segovia Master class at USC  He is the top player here in San Diego right behind Pepe Romero of course!!!!
I just graduated last june from UCSD in music and I studied with Colin McAlister who is a contemporary guitarist and Randy Pile who has been a lifelong student of Pepe Romero, who has occasionally toured with the Romeros in the past!!
I live in Pacific Beach and if you want to work on duets, its a great way to learn how to sight read and to learn how to play with someone else.

Did you check with Pepe Romero? He is an excellent teacher. Also, in Escondido, Jose Oribe lives and he knows lots of players that can teach.

There is also Kristine (pronounced Kristina) Romero, Pepe's ex-wife. She was married to him for 25 years and is also a great teacher. She lives in Encinitas last I recall.
With San Diego being the home of the Romeros and so many other teachers and students here...I wonder why there is no classical guitar society???
I have been living here for over 3 years and I've always wondered that myself :?
There are many classical guitarists here with big names its unfortunate that we don't have a guitar society. I am a member of the Orange County Guitar circle but I dont like driving up there all the time when we have to meet :(

Is anybody here going to the Pepe Romero concert Jan 22 in Long Beach. I just bought tickets after getting this E-mail.“I am very excited to be premiering the Concierto a Celedonio composed for me and dedicated to my father, Celedonio Romero by Maestro Enrique Diemecke. Please come and join the Long Beach Symphony, Maestro Diemecke and me on this momentous occasion. I will also be performing the famed Concierto de Aranjuez by the great Spanish composer, Joaquin Rodrigo.” Saturday, January 22, 2005 Terrace Theater Long Beach Performing Arts Center Long Beach California Tickets and information: http://www.lbso.org/Sea_Clas_Beauty.html www.peperomero.com

GET STARTED THEN!!! Maybe the excellent guitarrists are not the best organizer, or do not care or need to socialize. They may be above the crowd. Then you can get it started. I am sure no matter who organizes, Pepe Romero will be first to show up. So you can use that to give a big booster to the SAN DIEGO GUITAR CIRCLE. Good luck in your endevor, or not?

Thanks for the advice Pepe, it is definately a consideration to start something like this. And I'm sure Pepe Romero would be the first to show up. He's all over San Diego :P and hes just a down to earth guy and one of my favorite performers as well.

I remember one time at a lesson with Kristine (his ex-wife) at her house on a Saturday morning...doorbell rings and Kristine says, "Oh..excuse me, that is Pepe coming to pick up Bernardo (their grandson)...would you like to meet him?". I was like "Uh...yea that would be great" trying to make it seem like my heart rate didn't just jump up to 200 BMP!
I didn't know what to expect but he came in and immediately walked over to introduce himself to me and started asking me questions about my name (different than my screen name) and where I was from (Egypt) and seemd so interested in someone who for the most part is comepletely insignificant to him...I was very impressed with his humility and graciousness and overall warmth.
Great person!

Lo cortes no quita lo valiente.
For the times I've met and seen Pepe perform and I have to say by far he is the most modest musician I know. He has so much passion even when it comes to playing a piece like Recuerdos, he'll play it like it was the first time....so much passion!!!!!
Imagine.......his passion, David Russells musicality and John Williams technique=THE ULTIMATE GUITARIST:shock:

Hi Nicco812,
Last communication I had with her was late in the summer and her rate was $40/hour. I was taking weekly one-hour lessons then later because of my work/family life, I cut down to one-hour lessons every two weeks. Her phone # is:
760-942-7883
Let me know how it goes if you contact her...

Hi, My name is John Tran, lived in Oceanside, CA.
I had short time study with Celino Romero. I also attended Pepe Romero master class at USC in June 04. I almost bought the guitar from Pepe Romero Jr. made which Pepe Romero played on Wednesday night concert. I missed because the guy from German bought it. It sounds excellent, but my wife said NO.

Congrats!--on the founding of the San Diego Guitar Circle. I grew up on the coast & travel back occasionally on business or my other interests, I'd luv to visit! I lived in Solana Beach in '78 & was the quintessential beach guitar/surfer/nomad...nicco812--is that restaurant still there on the sand, "Kracken" or something, I'll tell you guys the story of how I got(&lost) the "house gig" there-- ...whew!... I still have my old "blanca" from then..Hasta Jubi

Hey Zack! & all! Just a little "foresight" on my part to belay the confidence & energy evident in everyone's posts there in the county! You'll find that in a group setting, ideas & suggestions will pour out.Per your various profiles, you've got "brothers" with diverse backgrounds & experience levels to pool ideas with and it looks like there may be a class/board room to be had, as well as maybe a home or two for an initial get together.Pepe Vergara has a membership in the O.C. group & has offered his experiences regarding the structural aspects. That upcoming show in L.B. would present an opportunity for an initial meet as will another time slot after work & school hours.Somebody there local with a cell phone, machine or--a secretary--could organize your early steps;perhaps GSI could provide a usergroup page or thread to log your locations & contact infos in a semi-secure ,but public view, such as now...anyway,--Go for it!---Jubi p.s. if you guys decide on Pepe Romero's concert...somebody look at an x-tra seat & I'll check the surf reports(my company authorizes safaris)
