For as bulky as it it, I couldn't fit my small steel string guitar in its normal size case inside the case extreme. Perplexing. However, it seems like a good solution if you can fit your guitar in it and you don't mind the extra bulk. The one I tried was of reasonably good quality.

In the end, the friend who was going to lend it to me had a Calton case that happened to fit my guitar like a glove, so it was kindof a no brainer.

Yep!! & cartons of Luckey's. I mean we gotta do it right(you know how MischaZ can be...)what with all this "labeling"-pun...finally got spare saddle ALL the way down: there's "white" showing..so I'll change 'em out next. I dug up couple more sets/misplaced/one is EJ45 but it don't say composite or anything. However, very curious sealed bag--(maybe send to "D",get 'im off my a**) Chasin' parts etc today -pick 'em up in town..

Hi, Folks:

Well, I haven't heard from Accord about the feasibility of a 10-string case yet, but this thread and "the Clam" should be on the other thread with Calton and Accord. It is a great idea to place an Accord into the Clam before using airline baggage service, if only to keep the Accords or Caltons in beautiful condition. I've had my expensive Mark Leaf cases look so bad (after 20 years or so) that I was a bit embarrased last year when a restaurant owner I had long worked for made a comment about it, contrasting it with the beauty of the guitar inside. This is NOT the kind of reaction I like to get, especially when the person making such observations is a potential patron. I note that Accord recommends the 3D finishes rather than the smooth ones with solid colors. This comes back to the same issue, that of keeping the case itself in beautiful condition. I think I'll opt for the Clam, if only so I can get the most beautiful smooth case finish, complete with calligraphy, With the Clam, I feel confident that I can keep it looking beautiful.

"We gotta do it right," hmm, Jubilee, yeah, I guess I've really changed though the many years of playing guitar, I started out as a hippy Rock musician, inspired by the Beatle's Ed Sullivan debut in 1963. I changed when I began to study with top classical artists, like the late Narciso Yepes. Folks like him don't ever compromise their art. I changed even more after taking from one of the masters of Chinese classical music, and--years later--from some of the top masters of India's classical music. The Oriental cultures in particular have a sense of reverence toward music, and toward the student/teacher relationship. Such attitudes can change us Western students a lot, especially us hippy Rock musicians! I think that I have always had one characteristic that has gone through my efforts: I don't think folks should compromise a sacred art, and I consider music to be a sacred art. I still deify the Beatles, they deserve it!

In one sense, I can see where I could have done much better in past years. I used to have great pride about my hearing gifts, the fact that I could play Clapton's and other guitarists' best work note-for-note, and I felt quite a bit superior to my peers who could not do this. Nowadays, I have more respect for those who reach into their own creativity in this sense. I don't care beans for the scale-players, many of whom are churned out by the more historically recent "high-tech" guitar institutes. Musically, I LOVE the creativity of those who are following their inner voice rather than their hands, no matter how simple. I respect those types of players more than I respect the gifted ear player I was back in my Rock days, and I respect them much more than I respect musical jugglers. Today, I make it a point to work always within my inner voice. I've long retired Slonimsky scale thesaurus approaches, and I dislike teaching my students from such perspectives as well. I'm not that great yet at improvising/composing, I wasted my best years playing note-for-note. But, it's coming, bit by bit, and what is coming is REAL, something that touches the heart. Having started creative playing so late in life, I guess I"ll always be a "minimalist" composer/improvisor/arranger, but, perhaps that's not such a bad thing.

Thanks, folks, and all my best!

Mischa

Moveable frets & ???!! Take care.--Jubi

Mischa, a better way to protect your Calton or Accord is a case cover. Adds next to nothing to the size. See Frank Ford's site frets.com for his missive. GSI sells case covers...

Thanks Evan:

For years, I tried to get covers for my Mark Leaf cases, but the 10-string case has slightly different dimensions. I don't know what, if anything, might happen with Accord or Calton in this regard. I certainly love the idea of the Accord's included shoulder straps, this would be great for taking the guitar to some beautiful spot here in the Sierra Mountains, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, or even into the great groves of trees! The Redwoods can be so inspiring, I swear, I can feel them singing when I'm alone and respectfully silent in the groves!

I'll be checking out Frank Ford's site, I'm sure, but "frets.com" seemed not to work...

All my best,
Namaste,
Mischa
