I was wondering where do you place the thumb while executing a rasgueado. I noticed that Oscar Herrero (in his first DVD) pputs the thumb in a vertical position in between the low E string and the guitar. I find it uncomfortable to put it there, so i just put it in top of the guitar, just above the E string and i place it parallel to the top of the guitar. Is this wrong? Should I place it otherwise? How do you do it?

the thumb is vertical??

the thumb should rest on the 6th string (low e) and is roughly parallel to the floor. the fingers form close to a right triangle to the thumb (approx. 90 degrees) which puts them in a vertical position. for rasqueos involving the low e string, the thumb lifts off the string and "hovers' just above it in roughly the same position as when the thumb in being supported by the e string.

To add to keith's. i have also seen players rest their thumb on the top tap plate as well. At least for doing rasgueados involving the low E.
Just another variation. :D

yes, vertical, if u watch the dvd u will see. And oscar herrero specifically says that the rest fo the fingers should not be vertica, they should be on a 45 degree angle.
