Pepe:

You seem to know a lot about Aparicio guitars so maybe you can help me. I just bought a used Aparicio AA152. It is not listed on Aparicio's web site so I have little information about it. I do know that the sides and body are Brazilian Rosewood or so I was told and that it sounds good but I just wanted additional background.

I emailed Aparicio several days ago but did not receive a response. They probably saw a message in English and hit "delete". Do you know anything about this particular model or do you know someone at Aparicio who could fill in the blanks?

Thanks for the help.

AA152 is the top signature model.

It's seems that some retailers in the states use AA152 as the name..

Jon:

Thanks for the info. I looked at the top of the line model (Jose Manuel Aparicio) and the rosette design looks different from this one. The label indicates AA152 . I checked prices on the JMA model and it was in the 7-8,000 USD range. This one was way less. I did find a site I believe is in Switzerland that listed the 152 at just under 2,300 USD http://shop.musix.ch/ecommerce/index.php/manufacturers_id/67

Bottom line is it sounds good and the only knock is that the D string tuner slips but that may just be the stringing. Seems like every guitar I've owned has a sticky D string tuner.

I have played all the Aparicio Models and I like them. However, I think his bracing is too rigid and it will take a lot of time for the high end models to open up. The AA100 has a very simple Torres fan bracing that provides good sound. His flamencos are modeled after Barbero and Santos.

Pepe:

You said something to the effect, "I value this guitar (Aparicio) above all others" and I got real excited about them. Now that I bought one, you say the bracing sucks.

What do you know about the AA152?

I do like it them. If I only had money to buy one, I would buy the AA100, and that is what I did. The high end are very good too. I personally, from the luthier point of view, I prefer the bracing of the AA100 thatn the high end ones because I like it to open soon. Fleta guitars are also slow to open.

Well regardless, I really like this guitar even if I'm ignorant of where it fits within the Aparacio guitar universe. I have 2 good guitars now so the one I'm playing knows that it can be replaced if it misbehaves. :P
