Hi Everyone!
I've returned to the GSI Forum after a long sabbatical! I see we've picked up speed in the threads & posts as well as gained quite a few new members. I'm glad to be back!

Katie-
Let me be the first to welcome you back. What pieces are you playing, at the moment?

Thank You Libre! I'm currently reinventing myself I was away from the guitar for quite a while also. Right now I'm working on basic material to become reacquainted with the guitar. I'm practicing with Carcassi Method, Scott Tenant's Method and other music which is not considered classical.
As I progress in my reading ability I will get involved with Sor, Tarrenga, Villa Lobos, Bach, Baroque and other traditional classical works. I practice with my Alhambra 5P a student model, switching to my Alhambra India Luthier which is a concert model.

let me be the second to welcome you back KatieG. welcome back!
how's the alhambra indian luthier (guitar) treating you  ?
KatieG

Thanks Brian! The India Luthier turned out to be even better than I've expected! The voice is just beautiful. The bass strings are sonorous and the treble strings really sing!
The 5P is mellowing as well. I look forward to practicing with both models daily. I'll be purchasing the velvet back covers from GSI to prevent scratching the backs of these fines instruments.
I was on sabbatical due to severe back injuries which I'm undergoing physical therapy at this time. It turns out I have several severely herniated discs. I noticed that I was getting more and more uncomfortable sitting, standing and walking even before I retired but while I'm at home it became progressively worse, especially while practicing the guitar. It became unbearable. The physical therapy will hopefully allow more freedom of movement. Given the rough and tumble career I was involved in this was inevitable.

Katie,
there is a chair called 'the guitar chair' which people swear by(a bit pricey)
and the guitar cushion, which i swear by. both will help leaps and bounds with guitar position related pain. i'm 6'3"/4" and the cushion keeps both feet on the ground(when i'm not helping vodka share holder realise a profit--hic-up). gsi has the cushion and the chair is out there.............

Hello Katie,
Welcome back to the NEW GSI forum. We'll keep an eye out for you so Libre doesn't rough you up too much.
We have a little in common; I too had a brief sabbatical. Mine was a mere 25 years (+/-). How about you?
KatieG
06-02-2005, 07:17 PM
Hi GST Fan!
My sabbatical was a little more than 1/2 yours! LOL! I lost my home to a fire and with it went all my instruments. I wasn't insured because the building I lived in was undergoing a transition to become a co-op and no insurance company would insure that big of a complex until it became stable. The fire occured in 1994 approximately 11 years ago this past March.
As far as Libre is concerned don't worry worked in law enforcement for more than 25 years I know how to handle myself! 8)
Thanks for the welcome!

I see you add spice[/i to the conversations & pposts! I love it!
Brian the [i]Guitar Chair you mentioned I'm posting the following link which states it's the Guitar Chair :
http://theguitarchair.com/order.html
Is this what you're referring to?
I've seen it before but I haven't spoken to anyone who has low back pain, bought the chair and reviewed it until now.
If this is the chair I'lll surely order it for myself as a Christmas present. Thanks for the recommendation. 8)

Hey Katie-
I'm Libre, the one they warned you about - but don't worry. I never attack women, especially those in physical therapy, and ESPECIALLY those that were in law enforcement, and can obviously take care of themselves.
Tell me, did you write to me? I think I've heard from you, outside the forum, but you mentioned a different handle. But there is too much coincidence for it to be somebody else. I didn't realize you were one and the same until some of the pieces fell together. I'm glad that I was the first to welcome you back - it's good that you are back on the forum.
This chair thingy may be good - I don't know anything about it - but others have praised it.
It's also good that there is a female here, in addition to the few that were here already - not that I am that gender concious - but I hope your presence will naturally cause some of these rambunctious men to behave themselves.

Katie G,
I just read your your post in the GIGS thread, but I didn't want to post there. I'm tired of seeing it @ the top of recent discussions. Your list of credentials and accomplishments are impressive, to say the least. I just wanted to welcome a fellow Pole to the forum. My grandparents (fathers parents) lost many when Germany invaded Poland (but who isn't connected to someone who perished in WWII). Anyway, I just thought it was interesting to meet someone with a similar heritage and family experience. I don't meet many Poles in GA. I enjoyed your post and I look forward to more. :D

larilian!
Thanks for the welcome! Yes! You're absolutely correct! The highest concentration of Poles are split between New York City - Greenpoint Brooklyn the densest concerntration and in Chicago, Illinois.
The best get together of Poles on the East coast is at :
National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa,
Ferry Road,
P.O. Box 2049
Doylestown, PA 18901

Here's a link that has more detail about the Shrine :
http://www.phillyburbs.com/pointsofinterest/shrine/America.htm
I've enjoyed the Festival many times! It's held the Labor Day Weekend and the following weekend! What a great spot!
There aren't that many Poles in Georgia but there are some though! Let me know if you'd like to chat I'll post my Email.
