doug-
It appears that you and i will be attending oberlin together next year. I read in some post that you are doing a double in guitar and neuroscience or psychology. I only applied to the college, but i'm planning to apply to the conservatory after i get there. I don't know if im good enough to be a classical guitar major, but i want to do composition or something like that. Anyway, i think its nuts that were both going to oberlin, we both play classical, and we both want to do music and psychology.

Hi Phil,
What a coincidence! It is awesome to hear that we will both be attending Oberlin next year and we have the same interests. I can't wait to meet you in person, I almost wish summer was over because I am so excited to finally go off to college and can hardly wait anymore! Yipee!
It will please you to hear that next year the Guitar Foundation of America (One of the biggest international guitar conventions and competitions) will be hosted at Oberlin in October. Stephen Aron, the guitar professor at Oberlin, is the convention director this year. Some of the concerts he has lined up for the GFA are Manuel Barrueco, Paul Galbraith, Roland Dyens, Randall Avers, and so on. Go to www.guitarfoundation.org for all the details. It will be really exciting, the best part is that it is going to be at the Oberlin Conservatory.
You are in a great position though-One of the students in the guitar studio at Oberlin did exactly what you are doing. He spent his first year in the college, but he began taking guitar lessons with Mr. Aron at the Conservatory and got to know other music professors to decide on what he wanted to do in the conservatory, and the following year, he applied to and was admitted in the Conservatory. Next year he will be a senior, and I can honestly say that he is one of the best guitarists in the studio at Oberlin...and he started off in the same position that you did, so you are definitely doing the right thing and are in a good position.
I will look forward to hearing back from you soon. I am really glad I had the opportunity to meet you through this forum. It just goes to show what a great forum this can be!
Doug.

Right now, my undergraduate teacher is Stanley Yates at Austin Peay. Once I get my Bachelor's Degree, I'm seriously considering going to Ohio to study with Stephen Aron. In February, I had a master-class with him and was quite impressed with his knowledge and helpfulness! Great teacher.

This annoying off topic post is getting dangerously close to being on topic. Come on guys. Can't you restrict this thread to non-guitar issues? I mean, let's show a little respect to the ANTI-subject n*zis.

thanks for the welcome!
i just bought a giambattista g4 from the classical guitar store in philly where i take lessons. Its my first "nice" guitar. i treid 2 of the same model, and the one i got was so much louder and more resonant than the other one in the shop, so i guess i lucked out. anyway, ive played guitar for about 8 years, but i only just switched to classical this year, so in that sence im a beginner. Im working on the bach cello suite right now.
im glad to be a member of this forum, it seems pretty awesome

Hey Phil-
Glad to have you aboard!
Which Cello Suite? There are 6.
I play cello suites 1 and 3. I'd learn the 4th (equally awesome) but I'm into the Violin S&P's right now.
