View Full Version : GSI Open House?

Inspired by the "Pepe y Perf" thread here (http://forum.guitarsalon.com/viewtopic.php?t=3371[/url), I thought I'd throw out this suggestion.
Since GSI is generally open by appointment only, it might be cool to have an "open house" on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and invite everyone on the mailing list. Serve a few refreshments, maybe con Perf into playing a few tunes and Pepe into giving a talk about the luthier's art and what makes a good guitar...
A chance for the forum members to meet and mingle, and others who would be too shy to schedule an appointment get to see what GSI has to offer. Also, a bit of a homecoming to all those of us who have purchased our beloved guitars thru GSI.
Tim probably has a well known friend or two he could get to show up and make it an extra special event. ;)
What do you think?

that's an awesome idea, sandra.
and as a photographer, i'll shoot the event so everyone can see what everyone else looks like.

That sound great. Let's count heads. If you agree, please let us know. Also, propose a day an time. I am in, any time on Saturday.

Neato, glad you both like the idea! But it's really all up to Tim. My suggestion would be a Saturday from 2-6pm. Maybe schedule the talk at 3, performance at 3:30? ... but give a little leeway on both ends for those showing up early or staying later to mingle and check out the goods.
For this to work well, some lead time is needed. Again, it's all up to Tim, but I think it would be a fantastic idea and a good promotion for GSI. :)

a few years ago it was suggest to tim m. to have a "thank you forum members day" where g.s.i. would be open and food would be provided(nothing like a little k.f.c. grease to satisify the need for that once a year fretboard conditioning). i think such an occasion would meet the needs of what has been said in this thread. being from the land of cold and snow i vote for such a "thank you to forum members day" to be held during the winter.

I would love to meet everybody, and maybe learn a thing or ten in person! I would defiently fly out for that.

Now, you are scaring Tim. Imagine what Vodka can do to the several $$$$ expensive guitars in GSI. We could also think about another venue!

i'm much more dangerous sober.
plus the drinking is always after closing during the
pow-wow. but, not to worry, CA is a long hitch from NY
plus, the guitars would have to get their own vodka!

Brian,
Anyone willing to hitch from NY to CA to cadge a little free food and drink would be a true musician in my book.
In all seriousness, this sounds like a lovely idea. I would certainly attend. And if I know anything about guitarists, GSI could probably make more than one sale at such a gathering!

I did not know so many Southern Californians in the forum. I need to update my mailing list, so I make sure you are invited when I hear about a good FREE or unexpensive classical guitar concert, or when a friend is playing.

By the way, we are finalizing the work on our showroom and the parking lot of our new building (construction never ends as you all know!). When this is done (about 3 months), we will have some kind of event and invite all of you here. I think it would be great to meet the group!

Same place in our new building at 1455 19th Street in Santa Monica. It's a great location with about 15,000 feet of which we occupy 11,000 and rent the rest to a gym.
What we are redoing is the GSI showroom where a customer would come to see guitars. Most of our sales are done by phone, but we really enjoy the physical retail space as well. It's nice to be able to see 10, 15 or 50 guitars in any particular price range.

If I am in the correct forum for "suggestions" I would like to second
the notion of an Open House for those of you fortunate to live nearby.
However, for those of us on the East Coast it is a bit of a commute so
could we have a nice Video Tour icon of GSI just to see what the store
and all the different people are like?My online experience with the guitars I have purchased has been exemplary thanks to David and Hugo.Keep up the good work!

We just finished the showroom last week. Now we are waiting for some display cabinets we ordered a while back. I really like this idea and PLAN ON IT! However, as long as we've waited this long I'd like the cabinets to arrive and be installed. I'm guessing we've still got 30-60 days to go, but as soon as they're in, we'll get this going.
By the way, our "showroom" can probably hold about 100 people (crowded but possible) and I think we can get 60 chairs in case we have a performance.
For those of you who can't make it, we do plan to do a virtual tour of the place as soon as it's complete.
Thanks for all your interest and kind support!
