Ever heard Ivan Rijos? I knew him way back when he lived in Boston, the absolutely nicest, most modest, unassuming guy you could ever know, listen to a snippet of him playing VL Etude 7:

Nice chops, eh?
That would be considered quite average for a flamenco guitarist.
Impressive reststrokes for a classical player though.

mokotoff, I agree completely! Ivan is one of the nicest, most humble people I've ever met. Great heart!
Todd, this video does him no real justice. I met him in Almeria last summer and, believe me, his scales are just as fast as mine, only more controlled. We had a scale fight and I believe I lost. He could improvise to anything I played and we really entertained the local flamenco group. Their eyes popped when they heard us play the Chaconne's scales ( :D ) at about 210, only I played the original and Ivan IMPROVISED his part! He also played Zarda with me and Tico-tico at a crazy speed. Unbelievable!

From what I've heard, he is a very nice guy and an incredible player, both technically and musically. Juan Miguel Gonzalez (the guy who built my guitar) knows him very well and raves about what a great guitarist he is.
Seems like the guy knows what he's doing. I wish Ivan the best. Beautiful picado.
cheers.

Excellent chops... just as fast as necessary to carry the piece forward. Very tasteful and controlled. No ragged edges visible, no dirty laundry showing. What more could you ask?
