My cd is now broken, is there anyway to get a replacement or to download a copy from the net, so I can listen to these pieces? Any help is appreciated!

Hello lucid77,

Where did you get that CD?
I am possessing an LP ( that old black vinyl) where John Williams is playing those 20 Estudios.

Joe.

Joe.Hey Joe, what's happenin'?

The CD lucid's talking about is included with this book:

These particular ones were Segovia's favorites, I guess, so they're probably a different twenty than the ones you have? Here's the track listing:

1 - Op.6, No.8
2 - Op.35, No.13
3 - Op.6, No.2
4 - Op.6, No.1
5 - Op.35, No.22
6 - Op.35, No.17
7 - Op.31, No.21
8 - Op.31, No.16
9 - Op.31, No.20
10 - Op.31, No.19
11 - Op.6, No.3
12 - Op.6, No.6
13 - Op.6, No.9
14 - Op.6, No.12
15 - Op.35, No.16
16 - Op.29, No.23
17 - Op.6, No.11
18 - Op.29, No.22
19 - Op.29, No.13
20 - Op.29, No.17

Hello Locust77,

Here is the picture:

Here is the picture of the LP where John Williams is playing 20 Sor Estudios:
He is playing the same 20 Estudios as in the Segovia edition.

JW looks like he has been on one of those 70s benders. I guess it was all about the stars, bling bling, and studio 54 for him back in the day. And he seemed like such a nice, pedestrian chap....

Okay okay, before anyone roast me I am just having some st00pid fun right now. Yes JW is god :)

Actually, I think the recording predates the '70s. I remember listenening to my father's copy when I was in grade school in the '60s. It had a different cover, too. Maybe this photo was taken later, after it was first recorded.

I also have that same old dusty edition of the printed music. So Joe, when did you fly from The Netherlands to Cleveland and burglarize my parent's home?

I believe the Williams recording is no longer in print and not available on CD. I don't think Segovia ever recorded all 20, or at least they haven't been released all together. There is a Segovia CD (called "Guitar Etudes" I think) where he plays some of the Sor studes, along with a variety of other 19th-century etudes by Carcassi, Aguado and others.

I saw that edition somewhere and it referred to the CD as a "demonstration disk". Does it contain the full versions of all 20 etudes? And it's played by Paul Henry?

That's the one I have ("The Segovia Collection, Vol. 7" on MCA). Looks like it's still available, see Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Etudes-Andr%e9s-Segovia/dp/B000002PH0/sr=1-1/qid=1157742480/ref=sr_1_1/102-8451433-7300110?ie=UTF8&s=music) for specific track listings.

I'm pretty sure John Williams recorded the
20 studies in the late '50's when he was
19 yrs. old.
It may have been released a few yrs later.

Also, Pepe Romero's FLAMENCO! album was
recorded when he was 18, another amazing record.

It has the full versions of all 20 studies played by Paul Henry. I thought maybe the term "demonstration disk" had something to do with a little lack of care in the production? They're all cool, though.

Hello Locust777,

I am curious:
Did you, in the end, help Lucid out with his problem?

Joe.

Joe.I haven't heard from him, no. Maybe he forgot to return to the thread? I see he'd made one other post since he started this thread so I don't know? :)

I have all 20, recorded by David Tannenbaum.
I also have that ancient edition that Joe Alders has. Also the same price on the cover: $1.50. That may sound cheap but in those days that was about a week's salary.
