It is 3.28am and I canīt sleep, yesterday and today I had my debut with my countryīs National Symphony orchestra, yesterday I played really flawless and good, but the sound eng amplified me very lowly for the first and second movement of Castelnuovo Tedescoīs concerto, my dad video recorded me but missed to record my vowing and applauses arghhh, he was more nervous than me ( i was cool as a lettuce) ok I forgive him. the theater was over packed 500+ people
But today in another bigger theater around 600 people, guess what? I just watched the recording, and these little latest generation mini-DVD recorders suck! because at HQ mode it run out of space exactly when beginning the last cadenza! so I missed again the final part, I mean I really wanted to have the ovation on record, I vowed many times, enjoyed every instant staring at the theater etc... and I donīt even have the end of the concerto!!

Next week I will perform it once more, with another orchestra and different country, so I guess I wonīt take the hassle of recording it because as per usual I tour on my own...
so much for a great debut...

hehe it is an expression that as usual didnīt work in translation! 8)

but I was surprisingly relaxed at all times and at ease with the audiences.
I am not famous to answer you, Richard, maybe for a couple of days here because I appeared in the main newspapers and classical radio on interviews, my Picasso guitar was quite an attraction, but hoepfully my playing was more important than her.
But I am getting more and more invitations for concerts lately, the conductor offered me yesterday a comeback next season.

Maybe I will post the concerto, yes.

On a side note I want to recommend these Music Minus One concerto sets, it really helps to give you confidence to go to rehearsal, they are not perfect in some ways, the guitar edition of Castelnuovo's was a joke at some points where the editor completely thinned out the chord progressions (guitar score) but the lay out and everything is really well done.

Contrats! It must be a great feeling to know you play your best under pressure.

And about fame, he's just being modest folks...Maybe he doesn't want his full name out on this forum but here's a hint:

Ricardo *o*o

Would I lie?

my Picasso guitar was quite an attraction,

No matter how famous you get, you will always have guys like me come up to you afterwards with:

"I really like your playing...it was nice...SO, WHAT KIND OF GUITAR IS THAT!"

You got the first name right, Folio, but the last name I think you're a bit off on....

By the way, Ricardo *o*o had his orchestral debut when he was something like eleven....

Ricardo *o*o had his debut with HIS "country's National Symphony Orchestra" yesterday, but perhaps he played for other country's at 11?

Why am I so easily amused...

thraex, I read a blurb on the concert in La Prensa Grafica. They actually have a sound bite of the start of the ovation (ie. the important part)...maybe I'll just post that.

Call me a mystic, but I've always had this feeling that the greatest performances are not meant to be preserved. The fact that a great performance is ephemeral, that it exists only in the that special time and special place, is what makes it absolutely priceless.

So, by my logic, your orchestral debut must have been truly brilliant!

Congratulations. I'm sure I speak for the other forum members when I say we would love to see and hear an exerpt from this performance -- imperfectly captured though it may be.

Thank you all for your congratulations, it is so nice to know I have guitar friends so far and so close.

Folio,
Thanks for the tip about la prensa grafica, I didnīt even check their multimedia archive, actually that is from the rehearsal on tuesday, but it was great to hear a bit the members of the orchestra and the conductor applauding and saying bravo! after we finished that rehearsal. To be sincere, I didnīt notice those words in situ!

Playing under pressure has always been a time of unknowns for me, but my teacher, Frank was right, when 2 months ago I was worried about these concerts for I had not started to read the score, being busy as we were doing open strings and Sor, Tarrega studies and preludes. But he asked me to trust him and myself, if I practiced the way he pointed me, he promised I would play the first truly great concerts of my life. We met in Italy for masterclasses and he gave me final pointers, then I had 1 month left, full of insecurities about my ability to live up to the compromise, but some weeks later my confidence was high, 1 week before the concerts I started playing 100% and 110% of the tempo and it was there! secured and everything under control.

The experience has been great, actually I checked and the theater I played last night was for around 1200 capacity, but I calculate some 900 were actually there last night.

It was not surprising that Castelnuvo Tedesco was basically unheard for the orchestral players, but many of them came to tell me they enjoyed playing this concerto, they were extremely supportive and nice during all rehearsals, now I look forward to play with them again.

As i said before, I really enjoyed every moment, entered very "happy" to be there and there were no nerves at all that I could feel, just complete inner talking during the performing telling myself what to do.

If I had doubts this was for me, now those doubts have vanished, I enjoy playing in front of people.

Guitar Slim, probably you are right about the absolute epehmeral quality of a performance.

First of all congratulations to your orchestral debut. Wow, 900+ people watching and you did not have the slightest shake ... you must be very very confident with your own capabilities or i shall i say really good! Once again congrats :)

I second that! Congrats on your debut indeed! And I wish you all the best in your quest to take over the world. (Not that you would actually 'take over the world' but you know what I mean. There's a saying I made up that goes like this: "Set your sites on the world and you may wind up with half of Texas.")
