Hi noobrak
Yes, greetings to singapore from switzerland as well. Before i became a member of this forum i didn't know there are that many singaporeans interested in classical guitars.
I have visited Singapore twice but its more than ten years ago and i didn't came to Singapore for classical guitars but to learn Gong Fu fighting.
Ok there's no more Gung Fu fighting today and my musical taste turned from hard rock to flamenco.
Singapore is a nice city and i would like to visit the town again (next time accompanied with my wife), but i think the high humidity is a serious problem for everybody storing valuable classical or flamenco guitars in this place.
regards
Armando

Is that the place where they cane people for spitting out gum on the street?
If so, I would love to visit Singapore one day.

You would be most welcome to visit SINGAPORE.
As the chewing gum issue, I don't think there is any caning for spitting. However, if you are caught spitting or littering in general, there would probably be a fine and also corrective work order.
There is still however a ban on import (even for personal consumption) and sale of chewing gum, except for therapeutic uses.

we are in a very modern society here with poeple from all over the world work and study here. the law is always fair to everyone.
we don't cane people for simple offence. the crime rate is also very low in singapore. u can walk on the street very safely even if it is 3 am in the morning.
i welcome everyone to singpaore!

Since I was like 10 yrs old I read something about that chewing gum issue in SG, and got attracted to your country, have yet to go, but I will, for sure one of these years.
Maybe now there is a competition over there organized by Thomas -music, I will go for it and take the opportunity to visit Singapore.
Since you are a few over here in the forum, would you tell how is the classical guitar education over there?
Your new conservatory of music, which seems pretty serious about becoming top notch but only has piano and orchestral instruments degrees, NO guitar! :) it must be the low demand or am I mistaken?
Cheers.

let me clear the air on the chewing gum issue...
1. Gum.. the governement calculated a lot of money have to be spent each year to clean the gum people just dispose on the road, chair on the train etc...and even the gum can jam the door of the train and cause the whole train system to go down...that is the reason why the government ban it.
2. classical guitar education.... mostly from private tutor or music school... yes the new conservatory is nice but it is very new and only cater to the mainstream classical instrument, not guitar at this moment.
I have been playing on and and off for the past 20+ years... I would say the early days was the golden day for the guitar in s'pore... perhaps less attraction for other entertainment likes internet, TV program... so people spend more time on arts.
just my 2 cents
