Hi,
I'm referring to your personal map, the one that marks your development as a player! Mine, very briefly, would go something like this:
60's pop (Fave player at the time? Hank Marvin!!! Can't beat that red strat :D)
90's brit-pop/rock i.e., Blur, Oasis, Ocean Color Scene.
60's/70's rock
Jazz (anything from Basie to Pat Metheny)
Classical guitar.
Throw in many a dodgy pub, clubs, wedding receptions, prom nights, birthday parties of wildly varying ages, anniversaries and that probably covers my gigging experience with the band I played with! We started when I was 15, the old man of the band so I was, I left it when I was almost 21 and close to 300 gigs played. It was amazing fun and I have great memories of that time in my life. The best was when I was in college with no part time job and playing gigs was enough money for me. On-stage one night I realized that playing music WAS my job. Good feeling :)
After I moved to the states, I started to study theory and music reading. For some reason, that for me was the spark that ignited an interest in jazz and eventually classical. I have been playing classical since August 2005 and my only regret is that I didn't start it sooner. But it's been a good ride so far!
This summer, I'll be starting in college - finally, a music major.
Where have you come from?
