A local high school where I teach a guitar class hosted a performance/presentation by a sitar guru along with other musicians performing Hindustani classical music, ie. tabla, tambura etc., and during a Q&A afterwords when he was fielding questions from the students he gave an answer that included a great line that I think really embodies the work ethic involved with being a performing musician and I wanted to share it with everybody. The question he was resonding to was regarding performing with other musicians and there was much more to the response than this but here it is.
"8 hours of practice will get you 8 minutes of music in a performance."
I thought that was really great, so there it is.
