David "Jose" Rubio is well known for his work with Julian Bream in the 1960s. This instrument was built during this very period while he was still in New York (Bream played on a Rubio made in 1965), before he returned to his native England. Materials are absolutely exquisite including perfectly quartersawn European spruce and dramatic CSA rosewood. The sound is the clean, clear and robust with the beauty and lyricism for which he is best known. There are some 3 small well-repaired cracks on the top, carried out expertly by Yuris Zeltins. We consider this instrument both historic and highly collectable.
