Description
This instrument was made by veteran Italian luthier (and bowed instrument maker) Lorenzo Frignani. It is the result of years of research both in the field of acoustics as well as in the pursuit of beautiful tone and therefore has several interesting and unique design features. Aesthetically, the soundboard on this guitar is prepared similarly to how Frignani prepares the tops of his bowed instruments, whereby he has a procedure using chemicals (and not stains or dyes) to make the wood appear aged in appearance yet with a sparkling brilliance at the same time. This is a method he also uses for his replicas of vintage instruments. At the end of this procedure, the surface of the wood is smooth with no residue left over that could potentially cause damage. The ornate rosette is absolutely stunning in its detailed design and perfect execution. Other subtle but striking details include the use of small mother-of-pearl dots that are inlayed in the rosette, headstock and foot (bottom), and an oval "flourish" in purfling on the back as it approaches the heal. Overall the various aesthetic details merge into a harmonious whole, giving the guitar a very distinct and stylish look. Structurally, the top is strutted with an interesting mixture of an x-bracing system (Martin, Stauffer) and a classic Torres five-fan. He also tapers the upper edges of the bridge so as to relieve the tension on the top in these delicate areas (where tops can oftentimes form cracks from the additional stress on these areas). Lorenzo has told us that he builds guitars from the heart and therefore aspires to building an instrument that appeals to musicians looking for a guitar that will be the greatest vehicle for expressive playing. This is truly a beautiful instrument both visually and sonically - it has a silky, rich quality of tone across all registers with singing trebles and bold basses. Materials are also striking including a top covered in bearclaw and an absolutely beautiful set of Makassar ebony for the back and sides.

GSI is the exclusive dealer in the USA for this fine maker.
