Next week is the  NAMM show in Annaheim. NAMM is the National Association of Music Merchants, and the NAMM show is the world’s biggest music trade show. As Dave Tate described it, it’s like the world’s biggest Guitar Center (with everything good and bad that that connotes). Electric guitars, amps and drums take up the most floor space by far, but there really is pretty much everything, by every manufacturer, you can possibly imagine, except a lot of luthiers, most of whom probably can’t justify the expense of coming to California and renting a booth.

Anyway, I thought I’d go and check out the state of the art in pickups and amps, since that’s a perennial issue for so many of us (though personally I pretty much refuse to use a pickup) and do a write up here after the show (hopefully with some video interviews). But if there’s anything else you want me to check out let me know, and I’ll be glad to talk to manufacturers and see what’s new. We have a little more than a week, so give me your lists.

I would like to hear about any battery powered acoustic amps that might be used with nylon strings electrics that produce a reasonable sound. I currently use a Cordoba 45FCE and sometimes a Godin Classical through a Roland AC-60. Sometimes a battery powered amp would really be handy. Just curious as to what products might have a decent enough tone with my instruments.

Hey Bruce- that ‘reasonable sound’ might be the kicker, but I’ll see if there’s anything new.

Will you please see if anyone from Francisco Broseta guitars of Gata de Gorgos, Alicant, is at the show. I would very much like to get their name and address. Thanks for your help.
