We are pleased to announce that we have recently received the latest publication from Orfeo Magazine, a gorgeous and unique compendium that chronicles the first five issues of Orfeo in full color print. Presented here is a beautiful, coffee-table style book housing the first five issues of what was previously an on-line (only) magazine whose feature articles have profiled the lives and work places of a selection the worlds finest classical guitar makers – both past and present. Additionally, each volume includes supplemental feature stories about the areas these makers work in, which helps to contextualize the cultural backdrop that informs and influences their different styles of guitar construction. The striking photography done by Alberto Martinez of each story brings to life the rich traditions behind each makers’ work and in grand visual display, brings to life the their fascinating stories and approaches to the art of lutherie.
Martinez describes his experiences in creating Orfeo Magazine, saying, “It was my vocation as a photographer and my passion for the classical guitar that inspired me to create, three years ago now, our magazine. I wanted it to be a magazine of elegance, one that would pay tribute to guitar-makers, as well as to the history of the instrument and its cultural milieu. The very first issue of Orfeo came out in February 2103 and was only ever intended to appear as an Internet magazine, available for free so as to ensure easy access for aficionados everywhere. The compliments and, in particular, the numerous requests that poured in have led me to envisage a printed version of the magazine, since many readers of Orfeo lament the difficulties involved with reading it on a screen, slow download speeds sometimes hindering access to the pages, and the fact that it cannot be enjoyed anywhere, anytime, unless the reader is in front of a computer or tablet. So now you have the possibility to order a book, encompassing the first five editions of Orfeo Magazine, which will be available, from now on, in two different formats: a free digital version on the Internet; and also in hard copy. Many thanks for all your encouragement.” Simply put, this book is a must have for collectors as well as anybody interested in the finer aspects of classical guitar making. We are proud to be able to share this unique and informative publication with you all! Check it out in our store here.
