Matthias Lang is a German guitarist who received his DMA from the University of North Texas, where he was guitar instructor until being appointer Professor of Guitar at the School of Music at Soochow University in Suzhou, China, where he currently resides. He was in town for some concerts and we were lucky enough to have him in for a few videos. Here he is playing Bach’s Allemande from the first from the first Lute Suite, BWV 996, on a great 1964 Ignacio Fleta and Gershwin’s Prelude No. 2 on a gorgeous 1925 Domingo Esteso from the Russell Cleveland Collection.

Matthias Lang is a guitar maker’s dream: a fine player with a tone that would show any guitar at its best. I was amazed at how good the Esteso sounded next to a fabulous Fleta.

Wonderful. The playing, the guitars, and their recorded sound.

Great video! The combination of a great multi timbral guitar played by a interpreter capable
of bringing out the nuances of the arrangement and guitar. Sublime.

Is the music for the Gershwin prelude arrangement available anywhere?

    • Hello Paul,

I have an arrangement for guitar (a Russian edition), but I did some changes and tried to play it a little more off-beat. Please write me via email, then I can send you the version I have.
