It is with deep sadness that we have received the news of the passing of Fritz Ober, one of GSI’s oldest friends and one of Germany’s top guitar makers.

Fritz was a great personal friend to each of us at GSI, and with every visit to Munich over the past 25+ years, we always spent quality time together. We have also come to know his son, Janis who has been working alongside Fritz in his shop for the last 10 years and will continue the tradition of instrument making started by his father. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Fritz’ family and the entire community of friends who knew and loved him. He will be missed greatly by all of us here at GSI who knew him so well.

Wow, I always liked his guitars and played with the idea of ordering one someday. Now he passes away so young. I talked with him once on the phone, a really nice and friendly down-to-earth guy.

I am so sorry to hear about Fritz. I bought a beautiful Spruce/CSAR Ober from GSI in 2005 that has aged wonderfully. It was great to start with and has gotten even better in the years since. I have always wanted to add a Cedar/CSAR to keep it company, and even to travel to Munich and meet with him. Sadly, the latter will never happen now.

I’m very sorry to hear that Fritz Ober has died. I’d seen some of his work in Orfeo magazine, as well as on this site, and he made lovely guitars. Good that his son
    is continuing the work..

  4. Well done and written my friend.
I’ve only just begun blogging myself just recently and have seen that lot of writers sikply rework
old content but add very little of benefit.

value to mme and your readers.
It’s on the list of creteria I need to emulate as a
new blogger. Visitor engagement and material value are king.
