Guitar #140, made in 2008, was Pepe Jr.‘s first koa guitar, and he has gone on to make many more since. And of course Pepe Jr. has also gone on to make koa Ukuleles that are now being bought and played by many of the great Ukulele players in the world, including Jake Shimabukuro and Jack Johnson. Here’s Pepe Sr. playing more of Tarrega’s ‘Capricho Arabe’ at our celebration of Pepe Jr.’s 200th guitar last year.

  1. LAWRENCE says:

A nice sweet ,warm and resonant sound. Not the clearest of tones but sufficient clarity ,and gorgeous Koa wood.Makers such as Antonio Raya Pardo of Granada enjoy using koa .

  2. The first guitar of this series that I did not love. The sound was a bit ‘brittle’ for lack of a better word. That is an interesting observation about the tuners though. I would be curious to know how you determined the difference in the sound of the Koa and the sound of the tuners.

Thank you for this in-depth study of your guitars!
