“Eva Beneke’s transcriptions and performances of Bach’s magnificent music are presented as if Bach had written them for the guitar.” – Pepe Romero, classical guitar virtuoso (Spain/ USA)

Bach’s famous Chaconne in D-minor will be performed in its entirety by Eva Beneke in an ambitious transcription for solo guitar.

The juxtaposition of Bach’s a cappella chorals with all movements of the D-minor Partita reveals an unbroken connection between Bach’s secular and spiritual work. It exposes the listener to the personal tragedy of the death of Bach’s first wife Maria Barbara and the subsequent consolation Bach must have found in his faith and in his work.

As the final movement, the “Chaconne” is presented in an arrangement for guitar and two voices highlighting the wordless chorale quotations hidden within the piece.
