I’m curious to hear what the classical world thinks of Paco’s take on this. Most of my flamenco-leaning friends prefer this version, but while I adore Paco de Lucía, it sometimes feels to me like he’s hamming it up a bit. I don’t have a landmark recording as a reference, though, so I go back and forth.

  1. Hammerhead says:

An emphatically florid performance. The flamencoista interpretation is, perhaps, a bit ‘over the top’ but most interesting and technically highly proficient.

  2. Lazaro Camarillo says:

he jams it,,,move like fluid and sound as it shoud be written ,,,grat performance

The nice thing that Paco de Lucia offers in this concert, is the clarity in the ritmic aspects of the concert, the main subject in the flamenco music. Giving that part the attention provided by Paco plus the superb technique, you have a masterful interpretation, on my view, this is a great landmark recording of this concert. After all, a great part of the spanish music is based off course in the spanish folklore, being the flamenco a big part of that, there is nothing wrong of giving back to the score some of that missing part that most of the classical guitar spanish music needs.

Humberto, I could not have said it better myself. I began with flamenco and have ended up playing classically, but Paco is Paco, and he is the king. He plays classical Spanish music with the heart of a gypsy. I think this version is fantastic, flowing and lyrical in a way only Paco can achieve.
