"El Libro De Oro": Three New Volumes Coming Soon! & New Player Spotlight: Ian Watt

News

Producing a series of companion videos for the “El Libro De Oro” books has recently been one of the biggest projects on our YouTube channel. For those of you who don’t know, “El Libro De Oro” is a collection of materials that had been used by Agustin Barrios Mangore to teach his students. It was published in six volumes by Barrios expert and luthier, Federico Sheppard.

Player Spotlight: Ian Watt

Ian Watt from Scotland is the most recently featured player in the series of “El Libro De Oro” videos on the GSI channel. Ian became internationally known, when at the age of 18, he was awarded with the 2nd prize at the 2009 Parkening International Guitar Competition, one of the world’s most prestigious competitions. Ian has been touring internationally since then. He was also featured on BBC Radio and in a BBC 2 documentary which included his performance of Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. Ian is a keen advocate of contemporary music. He has collaborated with composers such as Rory Boyle and John McLeod, whose Guitar Concerto was dedicated to Ian and premiered by him in 2010. Ian also performed two other premieres of McLeod’s works, Three Impromptus and Fantasy on themes from Britten’s Gloriana. Ian also took part in Peter Maxwell Davies’ 75th birthday celebration concerts in Glasgow in November 2009, giving a performance of the rarely heard ‘Dark Angels’ song cycle for voice and guitar in the composer’s presence. He has since collaborated with composers Rory Boyle and most recently John McLeod, whose Guitar Concerto (dedicated to Watt and the composer’s first work for the instrument) he premiered in March 2010. He also premiered McLeod’s two solo guitar works, Three Impromptus and Fantasy on themes from Britten’s Gloriana, in 2012.
