News

William Kanengiser from the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet has shared with us some information about the upcoming virtual performance of the USC Thornton Classical Guitar department that is going to feature many artists that you might know very well from the GSI YouTube channel!

Pardy Minassian performing the Super Mario Bros theme

The event will stream on Tues., Dec. 8 at 7:00 pm, and highlights include works by Vivaldi, Joplin, Hendrix, and a journey into Super Mario Bros in Pardy Minassian’s special arrangement of the famous Mario theme which you won’t want to miss!

Faculty member, William Kanengiser, will lead the USC Guitar Orchestra in several works including a movement from “The Walls” by Sergio Assad. The program will finish with the GRAMMY Award-winning alums – The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet – who will honor their 40th anniversary in a broadcast premiere of “Aerial Boundaries” by Micheal Hedges

The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet will join the concert as a guest ensemble!

About USC Thornton’s Classical Guitar department and GSI

USC Thornton’s Classical Guitar department and their faculty members – Pepe Romero, Scott Tennant, William Kanengiser and Brian Head are GSI’s long-time friends. Even this year, we had a pleasure to record many of their current students in our showroom such as: Ashley Lucero (who is this year’s GSI Foundation scholar), Brendon Grabowski, Edward Frank Martinez, Doris Cosić, Pardy Minassian, Mircea Stefan Gogoncea and Saro Babikian.

It was a pleasure for us to record all these performers during these difficult times, therefore we’d like to invite you to join us in the celebration of the rich legacy of outstanding guitar ensembles at USC with an evening of student and alumni performances.
