Jonathan Pryde - Roth 'Soiree' (2015 Stephen Hill)

Here’s 17-year-old Jonathan Pryde playing Soirée, a lovely new piece by Jonathan’s teacher, Jonathan Roth (who recorded some great arrangements of Christmas music for us just recently), on a fantastic new 2015 Stephen Hill cedar and ziricote classical guitar.

About the piece, Dr. Roth had this to say:

After attending a guitar recital which included two pieces by Roland Dyens, I was intrigued by the quirky sense of humor and dance-like rhythms which characterized these works. My composition was dually inspired by some friends of mine and our wonderful dinner parties where there was always amazing food and live music. Most classical guitarists will recognize the opening of Soirée as strikingly similar to Dyens’ Vals en Skai. I eventually had the privilege of performing this work for Mr. Dyens at a masterclass after which he said, “Thanks for the wink.” –Jonathan Roth
